Liibaan Posted August 30, 2009 BBC: Ethiopia 'seizes' town in Somalia AL Jazeera: Ethiopian troops enter Somali town AFP: Ethiopian forces drive Islamist rebels from Somali town Reuters: Ethiopian troops enter key Somali town, locals say TransWorldNews: Ethiopian Troops Reportedly Seize Control of Strategic Town in Somalia Associated Press: Ethiopia troops chase Somali Islamists out of town Ethiopia 'seizes' town in Somalia By Will Ross BBC News, Nairobi Ethiopian soldiers in Mogadishu Ethiopian troops ousted Islamist forces from Mogadishu in 2006 Ethiopian troops have seized control of a strategic town in Somalia, eyewitnesses say. Belet Wayne is near the Ethiopian border and the Ethiopian troops are reported to have taken control of the town without a fight. Ethiopian troops intervened in Somalia in 2006 and removed Islamists from power. They officially left Somalia in January as part of a peace deal. The Ethiopian government has denied that their troops have returned. In recent months, there have been frequent reports that the Ethiopian soldiers are back. While eyewitnesses say they have taken control of the town of Belet Wayne, this has been denied by the government spokesman in Addis Ababa, Bereket Simon. Rebellion fears Christian Ethiopia does not want hardline Islamist insurgents in charge of territory near the common border. It fears that this could fuel the rebellion in the ****** region of Ethiopia which is inhabited by ethnic Somalis. Recently there were reports that a large number of Ethiopian soldiers had entered Somalia at a time when Islamist forces had taken control of part of Belet Wayne. Eyewitnesses say that as the Ethiopians moved in the Islamist troops left the town without a fight. In 2006, Ethiopia invaded Somalia and defeated the Islamists who had seized control of much of the country. This caused a great deal of resentment in Somalia and helped the Islamists gain support. They returned with a more extremist agenda and in recent months have been fighting the interim government for control of the country - a conflict which has forced more than a million people to flee their homes. unknown01 Posted August 30, 2009 I remember when Al Shabab united with ONLF both of them were happy but unfortunately ONLF is a tribal nationalist organization. It will cause problem if they unite with people who wants an Islamic Emirate.
Fabregas Posted August 30, 2009 No thoroughbred Islamic Somali tribesman and women of noble Cushitic and Arabians origins will tolerate the Ethiopian invasion and terrorising of Somali civilians in this holy month of Ramadan. However, unfortunately, sadly, some of our people are their own worst enemies and they have mastered the art of lying, deluding, convincing their own nafs of false tales. for some, All Islamic, Somalinimo and noble principles are thrown out of the window when it comes to cheerleading for a particular group, tribe or individuals. Genetic Hardheadeness means that some SOmalis will never acknowledge when they are wrong or the person(cult?) they are supporting has betrayed the people and deen. So the Shariff supporters will make all kinds of excuses and hallucinating remarks: I swear the Ethiopians never entered; I swear Shariff had nothing to do with it; And even if he did, it was all Alshababs fault for provoking them and shedding the blood of pure Ethiopian bringing, Muslim Somali warlords; Or Ethiopians are the lesser of the two evils; I swear Beledweyn is just a minor incursion as Muqdisho hasn't been taken yet; the Maslaha dictates this. The point is, Shariff and his so called gov have grossly betrayed the thoroughbred Islamic Somali tribesman and women of noble cushitic and Arabians origins, by using the slogans of Islamic Shariah and liberation of SOmalia from foreign troops as a tool 2 gain power- both principles which they have discarded and thrown away when their masters promised them the keys to rule Somalia. See, Abdullahi Yusuf was a thoroughbred old SOmali soulja, although I completely disagree with his politics, he never used or lied about Islamic Sharica like Shariff or pretended that he liberated Somali from Habashis, unlike Shariff and his Ethiopian puppets. The other point is, as usual: aint no such thing as half way crookz.

Liibaan Posted August 31, 2009 Somalilandpress: "Ethiopian, Somali forces plan fresh attacks on militant groups" MOGADISHU-(Somalilan dpress)—In a new drive to oust Islamists officials of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia [TFG] and those of Ethiopian troops last night held lengthy talks in Beled Weyne, Hiran Region [central Somalia]. The meeting discussed plans to attack Bulo Barde and Jala Laqsi which are also in Hiran Region. Officials from both sides agreed that they would launch joint attacks on these towns as government forces are reported to have suggested that Ethiopian troops take the role of disarming the groups that are currently in the town and also arrest their remnants. Ethiopian officials are planning to deploy their troops all the way to areas that are near Middle Shabelle in order to assist the TFG forces as agreed with senior officials of the TFG.
