PRESS RELEASE: The weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland.

Hargeisa-The 4th session of the Council of Ministers meeting of the new government, chaired by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdurahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), accompanied by the Vice President of Somaliland, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, discussed issues vital to the interests of the Nation.

The President received various briefings from the Council of Ministers that are significant to the interests of the Somaliland Nation. These covered security, economic and social issues, and the export of livestock, which is the backbone of Somaliland’s economy.

First, the Minister of Internal Security briefed the council on the general state of the country, stating that the country’s security is stable and peacefully.
Likewise, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development also informed the council about the country’s general economic condition and how to accelerate taxation and revenue collection. The minister stated that the government needs to coordinate and tighten the belt.

On another note, the Minister of Finance mentioned the formation of a combined committee consisting of the Ministry of Finance and Economic development and the Central Bank of the Republic of Somaliland to advise on the general economic condition of the country and how to control inflation and exchange rate fluctuations.
From his part, the Minister of Livestock and Pastoral Development briefed the council on the activities of livestock exports and the challenges that need to be addressed, emphasizing that livestock are the backbone of the country’s economy. The minister also shared that in the past year, the number of livestock exported from the country was 3,718,966 heads, including sheep, cattle, and camels.

The Minister of Health gave a briefing on the general health condition of the country, stating that his ministry, in fulfilment of its national duty, is engaged in providing health services and responding to emergency situations, whether it be concerning medicine, transport, or staff.

A brief presentation was also given by the Minister of the Presidency to the council about the government’s 100-day plan for the peaceful, aligning with the development plan and the six pillars of the party’s political program, noting that the government is committed to tangible achievements that benefit our community’s life.

Finally, the President of the Republic of Somaliland instructed the Council of Ministers to align with the government’s promises and the party’s political program by having each minister prepare a general report within 15 days concerning their ministry’s ongoing and planned projects, who finances them, and the benefits these projects have for our community’s needs.
