Today marks a monumental moment in Somaliland’s journey—a new chapter filled with promise, optimism, and opportunity. The inauguration of Dr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Cirro as the President of Somaliland is not just a transition of leadership but a profound affirmation of our nation’s unwavering commitment to democracy, stability, and peaceful governance. As one of his campaigners for the past three and a half years, I am filled with pride and anticipation for the future of our nation under his leadership.

The peaceful transfer of power witnessed today, as President Cirro took the constitutional oath, is a powerful reminder of the maturity of Somaliland’s democratic institutions. In a region often fraught with turmoil, Somaliland continues to stand tall as a beacon of peace and self-determination. This moment is not just a testament to our new president’s leadership but also a victory for every Somalilander who believes in the values of unity, collaboration, and progress.

In his heartfelt inaugural address, President Cirro captured the essence of what Somaliland needs at this critical juncture. He spoke with humility, hope, and determination, reminding us of the power of unity in nation-building. His words, “𝑂𝑢𝑟 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑒,” reflect his deep understanding of the challenges we face and the collective effort required to overcome them.

Somaliland’s progress has always depended on its people. President Cirro’s message emphasized this, urging every citizen to contribute to the realization of a brighter future. It is a call to action for all of us—not just the government but also the people—to work hand in hand toward economic prosperity, social equity, and political stability.

Somalilanders have placed their trust in President Cirro, hoping for transformative change. From addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth to enhancing healthcare, education, and infrastructure, the expectations are vast and urgent. His campaign promises spoke to these needs, offering a vision of hope rooted in the principles of good governance and sustainable development.

However, it is crucial to remember that meaningful change takes time. We must temper our expectations with patience, giving President Cirro and his administration the space and support they need to lay the groundwork for lasting progress. As he said during his speech, “𝐵𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑛, 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎 𝑠𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑡. 𝐼𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑠 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒, 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠.”

Our role as citizens is equally vital. While we hold our leaders accountable, we must also act as partners in progress, contributing in whatever ways we can to strengthen our communities and advance our shared goals. President Cirro’s leadership provides a roadmap, but it is up to us to walk the journey with him.

This moment calls for unity above all else. Political differences, while natural in a democracy, must not divide us to the point of stagnation. As President Cirro wisely noted, “𝐴 𝑑𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑑 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑎 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔.” These words echo the wisdom of ancient proverbs, such as, “𝑆𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑘𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑏𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑘𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒,” reminding us that our collective strength far outweighs individual efforts.

The road ahead will undoubtedly present challenges, but Somaliland has always thrived under adversity. From securing peace to fostering democracy, our nation has consistently defied the odds. With President Cirro at the helm, we have a leader who embodies the values of resilience, vision, and inclusivity.

The legacy of this government will not be built by President Cirro alone. It will be shaped by the collective efforts of every Somalilander—leaders, professionals, elders, youth, and citizens alike. Let us seize this moment to renew our commitment to Somaliland’s growth and prosperity. Let us engage in dialogue, contribute to development, and support the initiatives that will drive our nation forward.

As we celebrate the beginning of this new era, let us reflect on the profound responsibility we all share. Change is not the work of one leader or one government—it is the product of a nation united in purpose and determination.

Today, we stand at the threshold of a promising future. President Dr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Cirro represents a new era of hope, and his leadership is a chance for Somaliland to reach greater heights. Let us rally behind him, offering him our trust, cooperation, and encouragement as he embarks on this transformative journey.

As we celebrate this momentous occasion, let us reflect on the president’s words: “𝐿𝑒𝑡 𝑢𝑠 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟, ℎ𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑙𝑦 𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑒𝑑 𝑠𝑢𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑.” Together, with unity and determination, we can transform challenges into opportunities and work towards a prosperous and recognized Somaliland.

Congratulations once again to our new president. May your tenure be marked by success, unity, and progress.
