Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The former Prime Minister of Somalia, Hassan Ali Khaire, today condemned the decision by the Federal Government of Somalia to halt all flights to federal member states. Reports indicate that airline companies have expressed reservations about their services being used to deploy troops to Raaskaambooni in Jubaland State.

“I strongly condemn the wrong decision of the Federal Government of Somalia to stop all flights to the region after airline companies have shown reluctance to airlift troops to Raaskaambooni. It is deplorable that Somali women and children who were planning to travel are now victims of this decision and are stranded at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. Travelling is an inviolable right of the Somali citizen. It is unfortunate that this right is being politicised to force airline companies to airlift troops,” tweeted Khaire.

The Federal Government of Somalia disputes the outcome of the election in Jubaland State and has resorted to an action similar to what the predecessor Federal Government of Somalia did in 2019, when it imposed an aviation embargo on Kismaayo following a presidential election conducted by the current Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, who was then the Chairman of the Jubaland Electoral Commission.
