Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — For the first time, a book on the political history of Somalia has been translated into Mandarin. Making Sense of Somali History, written by Dr Abdurahman Abdullahi (Baadiyow), was jointly translated by Dr Wei Xu of Zhejiang University and Dr Hodan Osman, the Somali Ambassador-designate to China.

The two-volume book is a survey of Somali history and is regarded by some scholars as a synthetic and original work, issued at a time when Somali Studies continues to be stifled by the failure to replace the first generation of scholars, who published their works before 1991, when the state collapsed.

Dr Baadiyow, a leading scholar, educationist and peace advocate, holds a PhD from McGill University. He has authored several books on Somali history, politics and religious movements. He returned to Somalia during the 1990s and played a leading role in reconstituting higher education institutions in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia.
