Declaration to Salvage the Country, by Somaliland Intellectuals

The statehood and existence of the Republic of Somaliland were founded on the expressed
will and aspiration of the people of Somaliland and on the basis of peace and the cohesion of
the society. The people of Somaliland established a state based on consultations and
a multiparty system to protect their solidarity. Since the declaration of the restoration of
independence in 1991, the people of Somaliland have strived selflessly to build durable peace,
sustainable development and unity.
Unfortunately, in the last four years, Somaliland descended into insecurity, political instability,
international isolation and economic collapse. For example, parts of our territory are no longer
under the control of the government. It is self-evident that the people who used to unite behind
one national army are now living in a situation where the weapons are falling into the hands
of clans who are trying to fill the vacuum created by the government, reversing the
nationalisation of arms and weapons amicably concluded in the 1990s. The current status of
Somaliland’s peace and system of governance is an embarrassment and a grave concern to
the people of Somaliland. The soaring inflation, unemployment, and weakened social services are of grave concern to Somaliland intellectuals and academics.
The Somaliland intellectuals and academics, believe the incumbent president has divided the nation that was handed over to rule in December 2017. His return to power will not serve the interests of the Republic of Somaliland and will destroy the remaining social solidarity and the
fragile system.

Therefore, the academics and community leaders of Somaliland are under an obligation not to become bystanders, and they should play a meaningful role in salvaging Somaliland. Taking this into account, we, the undersigned intellectuals and academics of Somaliland and those
who will join the declaration, who are inside and outside of the country, decided to wholeheartedly endorse Abdirahaman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro) to be elected as the president of the republic of Somaliland to save Somaliland, unite its people and create a stable political
environment that can permit dialogue.
We call on the people of Somaliland to fully support presidential candidate Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro) and vote for him to save the country they dearly love.

Victory rests with a united people.
