Ethiopians or not, the fact of the matter is that somalis are dying in Xamar as they did when the Ethiopians were there. Sheikh hotel has increased the tribal hatred that had besieged Muqdisho for decades. This warlord has fooled somalis and the international community into believing that he could bring change. To many in Muqdisho he has continued the suffering. People did not pose questions to his background, to his manipulative skills or his love for power. Sheikh hotel is a blessing for the warlords; these dreaded thugs had their days numbered but with the onset of this so called government they are experiencing revival. There were hundreds killed, most of them not fighting with or for any side. b) The souther part of somalia (deep south was undergoing some changes; through local dynamics, village after village was gaining some long sought peace. c) The international community was concerned. I hope we agree on the above points. What followed was this; It was alleged that the TFG did not command the support of the somali masses; that the hurdle to lasting peace was the TFG. As usual another conference was arranged in haste without considering the facts. On top of the 270 tribalists, warlords and conflict entrepreneurs another 200+ joined them. The mission; avoid wars; guns should not be fired; peace should be the key word even if this meant annoying some allies. The real motive of sheikh hotel begun to evolve a few days later. Instead, of listening and analysing the situation in somalia; he embarked on the usual nonsense; 4,5 appointment of a prime minster. Meanwhile, the dynamics of the breadbaskets of somalia were changing; peace was reported from Kismayo, golwein, Baydhabo janaay, berdaale, buale and what have you. And what did sheikh hotel do? Yeah, visit Adisabeba, sweet talk about reconciliation and visits to global cities in search of some sacbo tun, buraanbur and a few bucks to give to his next of kin. I am not kidding, I know people who payed some sheikh hotel relatives to come to Istanbul, Belgium. Soon somalis realized that this saint was no different from Abdullahi Yusuf, Abdiqasim and the rest of so called leaders who have shamed ad raped our nation. Who started the war you asked? does it matter? this is a government and president who ca´me to power never to fire. If Sheikh hotel is the saint you think he is; he should leave the scene; or engage in a bold move; conduct direct negotiation with those in power in the deep south (his former allies). He mentioned talks but we have yet to see a comprehensive strategy; somalis love the word negotiation but when it comes to walking the walk there is just doing the talk.
