UK to enhance joint security ties; talks address Red Sea security

Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (#NISS) announced that it has agreed with the UK’s MI6 to “enhance their joint cooperation” on security issues, with a focus on “regional, continental, and international matters.” The discussions, led by MI6 Chief Richard Moore, addressed threats like terrorism, human trafficking, and #Red_Sea security.

Sisay Tola, Deputy Director-General of NISS, warned that some entities are “deliberately trying to use Ethiopia’s initiative for port access for false propaganda purposes,” which he said undermines regional stability. He emphasized that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (#GERD) should be seen as a “catalyst for cooperation” rather than “an agenda for differences, controversy, and conflict.”
