NAIROBI, Kenya (HOL) — Conservationists are urging the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to intensify efforts to protect Somali giraffes and ostriches, as rampant poaching and severe drought conditions threaten these iconic species with extinction. The North-Eastern Wildlife Conservancies Association (Neca) has called for immediate intervention, warning that the illegal hunting of these animals is escalating, with giraffe and ostrich meat reportedly being openly sold in northern Kenya and smuggled into Somalia.
