Kamaavi Posted November 11, 2010 The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry is poised to trim some of its staff and close diplomatic missions around the world as part of cost saving measures, Bulgarian National Television reported. Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov announced on November 11 2010 that in total, 101 diplomatic staff are to be dismissed, while seven embassies, those in Sudan, Angola, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Thailand, Mexico and Tunisia are to be closed beginning of January 2011. The slimming process will be carried out until the end of next year, the report said. Bulgaria's diplomatic withdrawal from those seven countries would not change the course of Bulgaria's diplomatic relations with those countries, Mladenov said. The decision to pull out was made solely for financial reasons. Diplomatic relations will the aforementioned countries would be maintained through other Bulgarian diplomatic missions, or missions of other EU member states in the region, the report said. web page
