If the exmple of Balack Hawk down is what you are reliying on it, was A/Qaybdeed's millitia who fought the Americans that day..

And we know where qaybdid is(in puntland), and lets not forget the last chairmen of USC, he is in BAY-dhaba thats right. Or maybe in your clanish mind every one who is from H-clan is automatically USC member?

^^^A valid point indeed, so if the ones who fought the black hawd down are nor there, should one be worried about their subordinates. The Clan Courts strategy has blown in their face, a small millitia with Oromo, Eritreans and other fightrs wanted to be percieved to be a strong powerful Islamic movement which there never were.

I'm sorry I didn't heed to this thread.

It is now certain that Ethiopia is bound for war but the question that rings in our minds is will the military undertaking of Ethiopia plausible enough to achieve its ends? Time will tell

Somalia's Union of Islamic Courts has accused neighbouring Ethiopia of shelling a town about 630km north of the capital, Mogadishu.

Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, an Islamic courts leader, told a crowd of more than 10,000 people: "Ethiopian soldiers have massed around Bandiradley and started firing missiles toward our positions.

"Their tanks are trying to surround the area and now they are about 10km away from the town where our fighters are based."

The claim could not be immediately verified.

The Islamic courts seized Bandiradley earlier this month from a local militia allied to Somalia's transitional government. The government, though backed by Ethiopia, is largely powerless.

The move took the Islamic courts to within 100km of the semi-autonomous region of Puntland, where the authorities have vowed to resist their advance.

Puntland has ties with Ethiopia, and when Bandiradley fell on November 12, residents of the region's main town, Galkayo, reported large movements of Puntland troops accompanied by Ethiopian military convoys.

UN peacekeepers meeting

The protests in Mogadishu were before a planned United Nations Security Council meeting which is expected to discuss a resolution on the deployment of peacekeepers to Somalia.

"We call on the world to avoid a war that will affect the Horn of Africa"

Sheikh Yusuf Mohamed Siyad, security chairman for Islamic courts

Sheikh Yusuf Mohamed Siyad Indhaade, the national security chairman for the Islamic courts, said: "Our door of jihad is open for all Muslims around the world if the Security Council approves the deployment of foreign troops in Somalia.

"We call on the world to avoid a war that will affect the Horn of Africa."

Sheikh Fu'ad Mohammed Khalaf, the head of the Islamic courts' education department, said: "When the first shot is fired, all schools and universities will be closed and students and teachers will go to jihad."

Experts say Somalia could become a proxy battleground for Ethiopia and Eritrea, which broke away from Ethiopia in a 1961-91 civil war and then fought another 1998-2000 border war with its rival.

Eritrea supports the Islamic courts, while Ethiopia backs the interim government.

the Security Council approves the deployment of foreign troops in Somalia.

These short sighted clan courts leaders will make Somalia another Iraq. We do not want any foriegn troops in Somalia, including those of Ethiopia and other neighboring nations.

Caamir,

I think you are mistaken to conclude that ethiopia is bound for war. Ethiopia actually would like to avoid war more than anyone thats fiddling in southern somalia, somalis or foreigners.

The Jihadists came there expecting the American and British from Djibuti will come jumping to Mugadishu. It didn't happen.

If Ethiopia was wanting war, it would have reconciled with one or two of the warlords and preempted the ICU in Mugadishu. Thats actually a very clear sign that Ethiopia would not do anything that displeases the TFG in Somalia affairs, even something America was deeply involved.

You can be sure that the warlord in Jowhar has asked for help, but was turned down, because of what he did to the TFG.

Ethiopia will not do anything that TFG cannot allow. Yemen is also more important country in addition to TFG that Ethiopia has to thread very carefully.

On top of that you have Puntland and Somaliland that watch every Ethiopian move.

The government in Ethiopia today is the most knowledgable of Somalia than any government of ethiopia ever. First you have all the ex-WSLF folks everywhere and other ministers also have familiarity with somalia including the PM.

You can rest assured that for anything anti-ICU the TFG decides for allies or friends. Soon the US also will listen to TFG, since US has run out of options, just like what they did in ethiopia in 1991 in siding with the current government.

The last thing Ethiopia wants now is war, because if it gets into war it has to go to Eritrea and make a regime change. The Djibuti guy is smart enough to stay out of it, knowing full well that an the smallest Ethiopian stone would break his glass house so easily and faster than he can call arabs.

Believe it or not, Uganda is actually more motivated than ethiopia. Uganda wants to pay back the Eritreans what they did to her with LRA.
