Deeq A. Posted July 8 The Human Rights Centre condemns the arbitrary detention of Mohammed Abdirahman Eidle. Mr. Eidle was arrested on 03/05/2024 in Burco without a warrant and then transferred to Hargeisa Central Prison. Mr. Eidle has been held in different detention facilities since his transfer to Hargeisa. He is being held for a Facebook post criticizing the Somaliland government. Since his transfer, he has been seen by the prosecutor’s office but has not appeared before court, violating his constitutional rights. Article 27(2) stipulates that a person shall have the right to be brought before a court within 48 (Forty-eight) hours of his arrest, clearly violating his constitutional right to a free and fair due judicial process. Additionally, he suffered bodily injury and developed teeth issues due to being captured by the Somaliland Intelligence Agency in Burco and has not received medical attention, further exacerbating his injuries. The Human Rights Center urges Somaliland authorities to respect the rights of its citizens, uphold the laws of the country enshrined in the constitution, and honor them by granting citizens their due process and to receive medical care and attention as soon as possible. We reiterate the right to exercise freedom of expression in all forms and request for his immediate release without conditions. Yasmin Omar H.
