General Duke Posted August 30, 2007 The 45 days that changed a nation. The national reconciliation conference (NRC) of Somalia proved two important points. 1. That the desperate Somali clans could be brought together. 2. That this grand gathering could be held in the much scared, neglected and beloved capital Mogadishu. The naysayer, self hating Somali’s and servants of extremist clan sentiment made much ado about the insecurity of Mogadishu. The defeated clan militias of Xasan Dahir made threats against the delegates and promised to stop the meeting. Their threats resulted in the deaths of our precious children and terrorizing poor civilians. However the organizers led by Ali Mahdi paid no attention to the extremist clan serpents and the meeting went on as planned. Logistic difficulties and lack of funds postponed the meeting a number of times however the delegates led by the noble clan chiefs came pouring into the capital, regardless of threats and with the singular aim of meeting their countrymen who they longed to make amends with. After 17 years as equals the traditional leaders, poets, religious elders, former statesmen, women leaders as well as the youth of Mogadishu came together in a single venue. The gun was no longer the status symbol and unarmed clans were as powerful as the former bigwigs. Forgiveness and the end of 4.5 Clans from here and there aired their grievances, what was done to them, how it was done and who did it. Talk about therapy on a scale unseen in this country. How many years we suffered in silence as crimes upon crime was committed in the name of our clans. It was in this meeting, unique in our history that the leaders of the clans reclaimed their birth rights from unscrupulous politicians and shadowy business men. It was the elders who forgave each other, for we can not return the dead nor go back in time. On the Koran the kings of Bossaso and Mogadishu made up. It was on this holly book they took to the elders of the NorthWest and asked for forgiveness it was then they who went to the nobles of Bay and asked for forgiveness. And then the train of peace and forgiveness landed at the important fifth clan, who complained of being made “others” and not given due respect. It was in this land mark meeting that this clan regained for themselves their due rights. This meeting aired and dealt with many issues but the most important has to be the forgiveness, the return of property, the equality of all clans and citizens of the state and the fact that all the clan agreed that security is the sole responsibility of the state. Conclusion Today the landmark grand conference of our generation has come to an end. The meeting has taught us the vocabulary of a new language, that which is spoken in many nations but hitherto unknown or forgotten in ours. That precious language of peace. The Somali delegates have forgiven each other, have outlined a simple framework that we can be at ease with each other. No longer can militias claim to fight for the clan, nor can the serpents hiding in their hole claim they alone speak for the clan. 45 days of peace in which 2000+ delegates made Mogadishu their home. Adan Ade would have been proud, I know I am. Duke.

Emperor Posted August 30, 2007 ^Oodwayne easy there, every Somali clan was there, and the people that live in Somaliland are Somalis, they delegates may have never been there in the conference as representatives of Maamulka Somaliland but by being their clan. General Duke Posted August 30, 2007 Emperor & Camir. I think some people wanted everything to improve with this single meeting. It was not a panacea, but a firts step towards peace. There will be many other steps taken insha Allah but the clans have made peace in all places Mogadishu.
