Camel Mlik Posted August 26, 2005 Senior Somali cops train in Uganda - Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 19:05 Kampala, Uganda, 08/24 - A contingent of 65 senior police officers from Somalia has commenced a three-week training course in Uganda as the Horn of Africa nation embarks on institutional building after a protracted civil strife, media reports said here Wednesday. Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, Uganda police chief, said at the start of the training Tuesday that the exercise, which is funded by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), would help further cement ties between the two countries. "Uganda was honored to be picked among other countries to train Somali police officers," he said. Somali deputy internal affairs minister Fahma Ahmed praised President Yoweri Museveni for his efforts in helping to restore Somalia to normalcy. "We used to send our officers for training in the UK and United States, but now we shall train them in Africa," she said.
