RedSea Posted March 17, 2010 His real name is Ahmed Abdirahman Aw mahamoud 'godane'. He only changed his first name. He still is Mukhtar Abdirahman Abu zubeyr.
The Zack Posted March 17, 2010 ^People who know him in person confirmed that he changed both his and his dad's name. Even if it is only first name, what is reason behind changing his first name? Far baa godan arintaas.
RedSea Posted March 17, 2010 His daddy's name is Abdi; Abdi means a servant. A servant of what? God, creature or another human? So he changed into Abdirahman=servent OF the merciful. It's very important that there should name of Allah always accompanying the Abdi bit. Also naming himself Abu Zubeyr is not entirely wrong. It was very common during the Prophet Muhammed years that men took up their names after their sons...i.e Abu Qasim(the Prophet peace be upon him) thus Ina Godane might actually be imitating the Prophet peace be upon him in taking up the name of his son, zubeyr; Abuzebeyr father of Zubeyr. Nothing to create big fuzz about.
The Zack Posted March 17, 2010 ^His first name was Ahmed, he changed it to Muqtar, why is that? What is he hiding? We are not talking about his kunya, we know how arabs use kunya, we need no education on that. We also know what abdi means but it is not unislamic to have abdi alone as a name plus it is not his name, it is his FATHER's, for god's sake!, why change the name of your father? That is just wrong. Gheelle.T Posted March 17, 2010 They died at young age (months) didn't they? Would you still be named after a dead son though? I thought the whole Abu thing is to show of pride!
The Zack Posted March 17, 2010 ^they both died in young age, correct. The abu and umu thing aka kunya was an arabian culture way before islam. Abu lahab, abu talib are good examples, these guys were both non muslims.
