The increasing isolation and desperation of Abdillahi Yusuf and his supporters

Abdillahi Yusuf gambled on a military solution to Somalia’s problems and lost. The consequences have been so devastating for him, he had to leave his hideout in Kenya and play tourist in Libya. He is a man who had one, and only one message, and since that message was unceremoniously rejected, he does not know what to do or say. His closest circle of advisers composed of his immediate kinsmen such as Azhari and Beriberi are also in a similar dilemma, and that is why they are silent too. Gone are the daily and weekly interviews. Gone is the boasting, the threats. Silence and evasiveness have taken their place.

Even in that no-man’s land called the internet, Abdillahi Yusuf’s supporters have been reduced to a couple of websites manned by the same few clan fanatics who turn off most Somalis with their tribal hatred. Having failed to sell to the international community their ill-fated scheme of military invasion of southern Somalia, they initially turned their anger at Mogadishu’s warlords saying that they are the cause of Somalia’s problems as well as the reason why the government will not go to Mogadishu. Sensing that their message was not selling well partly because the warlords that they were painting in so much black were members of parliament and ministers in the same government that they were trying so hard to promote, they turned their rage towards the International Crisis Group, Arab countries and some members of the IGAD Partners Forum whom they saw as having blocked their man, Abdillahi Yusuf , from conquering southern Somalia with foreign troops. They specifically singled out Matt Bryden for their worst venom. They did not spare even his wife or children. They impugned the integrity of the American Ambassador in Kenya, Mr William Bellamy. They slighted and offended so many people, they are now friendless and isolated.

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was what happened in Minnesota. Somalis held a meeting to support the speaker of Somalia’s parliament. Abdillahi Yusuf’s supporters came to the meeting and disrupted it. Many Somalis in Minnesota were so upset at the fact that a small group of people wanted to deny them the right to speak in a free country, they called for another meeting. This time arrangements were made with the police to take legal steps against anyone who tried to disrupt the meeting. A much bigger crowd of Somalis showed up. Abdillahi Yusuf’s few supporters had to either not attend, behave themselves, or face legal consequences. Some of them did not come and the ones that did, behaved themselves. The meeting was a success. One of the participants reportedly said, “if these people want to stop you from speaking your mind in the United States, what do you think they will do if they took over in Somalia?â€

And that is exactly Abdillahi Yusuf’s problem. Too many Somalis know, or think that they know what he will do if he takes control of Somalia, and if you ask them, they will tell you it will be an unmitigated disaster. Many in the international community feel the same way. When you add to this the steady stream of damage that Abdillahi Yusuf and his myopic supporters have been inflicting on themselves, it is difficult to see how Abdillahi Yusuf will ever set up a functioning government in Somalia. It is far easier to play the tourist, visiting the ruins of ancient civilizations in places like Libya, flying from one international conference to the next, fattening his bank account with donations from foreign governments and agencies that were intended for starving Somalis, a path well-trodden by his predecessor Abdiqasim Salad Hasan.

LOL

Col Yeey is vacationing. Some people call him 'president' but he'd much rather be a tourist. Weird, ain't it? The guy doesn't even seem to care for all the cries coming out of Nairobi of the "khilaaf" that's destroying the so-called federal gov't. Abdiqasim Salad started a trend: become Somali president, make money, invade lands and retire a filthy rich businessman. Its lovely.

But, what about Riyaale the Runner? Is he getting desperate too? Last I knew his police stormed the headquarters of KULMIYE party - a sad, undemocratic incident. Axmed Siilaanyo (who should've beat Riyaale in the pres. election) said on Hiiraan Online something like "Reer Somaliland didn't take $hit from Siyad Barre and they won't take $hit from Ina Riyaale." You think that's a fair statement? Although I didn't get what he meant when he said every Somalilander that returns joins UDUB party. Care to elaborate? Or you busy chewing and celebrating Col Yeey's predicted demise? :D

Abdullahi is on holiday? He is isolated? He is scared, he is this and that.

14 years of anarchy wont change overnight, police and millitery wont be ready in half a year.

Plan, prepare then implement. Its the basic's of managing anything least of all a nation.

However things have changed indeed, the warlords are stuck in Nairobi, Shari;s estimate is down from 155 MP's to 30. ;)

In Somaliland we have delayed elections, Jouranalist being imprisoned, the fisrt lady Mrs Riiyaale and the Gabilay hospital fund scandal and the police raiding "Mujahid" Siilanyo's party headquarters without a warrant [Democracy]. So much for isolation and despair.. :D
