#Ethiopia: lFrench Parliament Defense Committee briefed on Ethiopia-#Somaliland MoU, discuss security cooperation with defense ministry

The French Parliament Defense and Armed Forces Committee has been briefed about the MoU recently signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland by Dima Nogo (PhD), the Chairman of the Peace and Foreign Affairs Standing Committee of the Ethiopian House of People’s representatives (HoPR).

Dima told the French committee led by chairperson Thomas Gassiloud that the comprehensive cooperation and partnership agreement that Ethiopia signed with Somaliland guarantees mutual development, highlighting its economic and national security significance to landlocked Ethiopia.

According to the HoPR, Dima explained to the committee that the #EU’s position on the MoU is “distorted” and asked the French government to implement the existing defense cooperation agreement signed between the two countries.

Ethiopia and #France agreed their first military cooperation in March 2019, during President Emmanuel Macron’s four-day visit to the Horn of #Africa, a deal that includes helping Ethiopia rebuild its navy, air cooperation, joint operations and opportunities for training and equipment purchases.

The French Parliament Defense and Armed Forces Committee also met and discussed with Abraham Belay (PhD), Ethiopian Defense Minister, the security cooperation among others. AS
