International scholarships available in Hungary for young agricultural professionals

16 January 2024, Budapest – African applicants from select countries are eligible to apply for the FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme. Three scholarships are available for two-year post-graduate study in fields including environmental engineering, crop production engineering or horticultural engineering for promising students from developing and middle-income countries.

For over 15 years, the Hungary-sponsored FAO scholarship programme have been offering young professionals from developing countries the opportunity to widen and deepen their knowledge. Those accepted to the programme will pursue studies at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Budapest or at the University of Sopron.

The scholarship covers university application and tuition fees, basic books, dormitory accommodation, subsistence costs, and health insurance.

The deadline for submitting applications is 29 February 2024, for the academic year starting in autumn 2024.

In the years the programme has been running, about 400 young professionals have benefitted from the FAO–Hungary scholarship. Upon return to their home countries, their degrees helped them find jobs and launch their careers as new “agricultural ambassadors.” They also have become part of a global professional network of their fellow scholars and their professors.

 

Nationals of the following countries and territories, who also reside in their countries, are eligible to apply for the programme:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo¹, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, Palestine, the Philippines, Republic of Cabo Verde, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Yemen.

¹References to Kosovo shall be understood to be in the context of Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999).
