Mogadishu, Somalia - August 11, 2024

Today, His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a phone call with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye. Their discussions highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Somalia and Türkiye, as well as the importance of regional security and stability.

During the call, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the partnership between their nations, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as defense cooperation and economic development.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized Türkiye's role in promoting dialogue and peaceful resolutions to address the challenges facing the region and to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two brotherly nations.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated Somalia's readiness to engage in economic and development cooperation with Ethiopia, while firmly emphasizing that such partnerships must always respect Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and adhere to international law and norms. He also took the opportunity to thank President Erdoğan for his unwavering efforts in addressing this issue.

it is kind of strange somalia which is a recognised country how ever it has a weak government is asking Ethiopia to recognise its sovereignty over Somaliland  and only deal with Mogadishu. Where as Somaliland also wants recognition from Ethiopia. Where as the bunker want Ethiopia to respect its one Somalia policy .  This is very interesting indeed

True. The gap is vast. No sane nation would agree to grant a sovereignty over port, coastline and land corridor to another country, even a friendly country. Ethiopia wants complete sovereignty regardless of HSM or Muse Bihi says.

UPDATE: The mediation talks between Ethiopia and Somalia in Turkey are still underway, Turkish diplomatic sources say: 

• The parties negotiate indirectly, and Turkish FM Fidan separately meet them to convey messages 

• Turkey is trying to reconcile the parties with a common understanding. The negotiations take time

I am hearing form sources that Ethiopia suggested to be given a territory inside Somalia for 30 years to build a naval force and a port  the Turks to invest in the port Somalia to have a stake in this port aswell not sure the percentage  and Ethiopia said it will go back from the mou if this can be agreed on and it will support one somalia policy.  Ethiopia also said if Somalia agrees to this deal they will shut down their consulates in hargeisa and garowe.how ever when this was presented to the Somalia side  they called the bunker and the bunker told  them  to reject the deal .

Somalia did offer hobyo but for commercial purpose’s but Ethiopia insisted on ownership of the port .
