The Republic of Somaliland Position on Somalia’s Claims Regarding the Ethiopia-Somaliland MoU

Hargeisa, Somaliland – February 11, 2024 – the Government of the Republic of Somaliland categorically rejects Somalia’s recent remarks regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Somaliland and Ethiopia. The Memorandum of Understanding, centred on collaboration in areas of shared interest such as security, trade, and infrastructure development, is a sovereign decision made by two independent nations and does not require third-party approval.

The understanding between Somaliland and Ethiopia is rooted in mutual respect, and a joint aspiration for regional stability. Somalia’s unilateral declaration of the MoU as unlawful blatantly breaches international law and exhibits its ongoing disregard for the self-determination of Somaliland’s people.

The MoU upholds the territorial integrity of all nations involved and fosters peaceful cohabitation and regional collaboration. We call on Somalia to relinquish its obsolete assertions and honor the desires and future prospects of millions of Somalilanders.

The Republic of Somaliland is an independent, self governing sovereign nation, with its own constitution, duly ratified by its citizens in 1997. Under that constitution, it has held multiple democratic elections where the people exercised their constitutional rights to elect their representatives, at every level of government.

The duly elected government under the law, has the full authority to enter into any agreement or treaties with any other willing state or entity, pending final ratification by the people’s representatives.

Somaliland has NEVER been a signatory of the documents referenced in Somalia’s press release. Any and all such claims contained in it, are hitherto, duplicitous.

Lastly, the Government of the Republic of Somaliland reaffirms its dedication to peacefully pursuing independence and seeking international recognition. We maintain that cooperation and dialogue are indispensable for attaining enduring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

if the bunker want to stop  abiye from visiting Somaliland well they can stop the Ethiopian airliner entering SL , but if Abiye visits jigjiga he can go per car via  wajaale and there is nothing the bunker could do

Xildhibaan Abiib makes good points. Why would the world need to engage Somaliland if Ethiopia becomes a player in the Red Sea?

If he visits any part of Somalia, let alone Hargeysa, that is a declaration of war, and so it should be considered.

I always questioned Cabdi Samatar's motives and analytical capacity; at minute 0910, he talks about uniting the nation, and pooling its strength to defend the nation, but then he places al Shabab in the same category as Habasha invasion. The only reliable, sure defense against Habasha is al Shabab. Talk about removing arrows in one's quiver night before the battle!

He is very sharp, and has a bright future in Somali politics at the national level. Imagine if he studied law, philosophy and politics, and had the correct tools to brief his constituency as to the looming dangers, and influence of the shifting priorities in the geopolitics of the world.

So the point is not that they want to encourage awdal state to be their own for their own self determination or anything or that it does have the right to gover them selves but it is a way  just to stop or halt Somaliland am i correct in this.

 

Now this means that the talks between somalia and somaliland are not officially dead and that ship has sailed

 

now lets move forward how can they actually make it work though  how can they install a puppet admin in borame from mogadishu i wonder how this can work..

 

people forget that this just gives me dejavu i just go back to 1985 not that long ago when afweyen tried to sandwitch the Noble men of the north. And it didnt work what makes him think that the the Bunker can make it happen.
