Puntland Constitutional Court Rejects Parliamentary Term Extension

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Constitutional Court of Puntland State of Somalia has rejected the decision of the Puntland Parliament to endorse one-year extension for the legislature.

Puntland Attorney General wrote to the Constitutional Court about the decision of the parliament, “which runs counter to the decision by Puntland President Said Abdulahi Deni”, who in deference to the recommendations of traditional leaders, called an ejection to take place on 8 January 2024.

The Constitutional Court’s decision will expedite the process to appoint arbitration committee ahead of the selection of MPs by traditional leaders.
