MoonLight1 Posted October 20, 2009 40 years ago today a revolution was born in Somalia led by Gen M.S.Barre Lets talk about the pros and cons of the man. Pros - Implmented the writing of the somali language. - Built many factories, e.g dharka, baastada, hilibka, kalunka, sokorta, caanaha, taraqa, sigaarka, the list goes on and on and on. - Built four out of the five main high roads in somalia, e.g the 1974 Muqdisho to Garowe. the bosaso to garowe high road in 1990, Kismayo to Xamar high road. - Built many ports and airports such as the kismayo one, the merka, the bosaso, and so many. - Built the strongest army in the sub sahar africa. - Built two universities. - Built many primary and secondry schools. Cons. - Excuted 10 Ulamaa on daylight at Iskool bulusiyo for just opposing his law of Xeerka qoyska. - Excuted or exiled his opponants, such as Gabeyre, Ceynanshe, Cirro. - Nepotism, a low ranking officer from Gedo was more poweful than an educated minister. -bombarded populated cities such as Hargeysa & Burco. - Coused the defeat of Xooga Dalka by not having clear strategy. - Corruption, Qabyaalad, Kali talis. Ducaysane Posted October 20, 2009 Nepotism, a low ranking officer from Gedo was more poweful than an educated minister. Can you name one officer from Gedo that was more powerful then let say..Abdiqasim or Matukade (cheif of the police, who persuaded sayid barre to kill the 10 ulumas)
Allamagan Posted October 20, 2009 OK, in short, if we say 10 out of 10 then mathematically speaking x^2-5+x is equal 8 hence 8/10 more pros than cons. RIP yaa Maxamed! dad kama tegin dal baad ka tagtay!

Chocolate and Honey Posted October 20, 2009 At this point, he is a "saint" because we have seen more ruthless leaders and wax mataroyaal is nacay. I would've loved to have experienced his goverment. From what my mom tells me, it had its good and bad.

MoonLight1 Posted October 20, 2009 Yes Allaha u naxariisto marxuumka, laakiin we just want to talk about his actions which we have the right to, good ones as well as bad ones, not his personal life.

Libaax-Sankataabte Posted October 20, 2009 We should judge our leaders on the "NET POSITIVES" they leave behind. What did they inherit vs. the country and legacy they leave behind. Siyaad Barre inherited a young, stable fledgling democracy full of hope and promise. The day Siyaad left Gedo and went to Nigeria, there was nothing left of that country. Watch this video of Mogadishu in the 1960s before Siyaad Barre came to power. Most of the "metrics of development" you listed are there including the birth of the Af-Soomaali (which is surprisingly your first item on the list. ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDkh2xYuKv8 Siyaad Barre, Ilaahay ha u naxariisto. Sadly many worse ones came after him.
