Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — Ahmed Isse Awad, the former Foreign Minister of Somalia, has called out the unconstitutional modalities agreed by the Somali National Consultative Council to adopt a presidential system and impose only two political parties on Somalia, among other hastily publicised intentions.

“With already weak state Institutions and the absence of proper check and balances, Somalia is drifting towards authoritarianism and concentration of powers in one person at Federal and State levels by the last decision of the NCC. It is dangerous and it is anti-democratic” tweeted Ahmed.

A key member of Puntland Political Forum and presidential candidate for Puntland 2024 elections, Awad views the proposals that Villa Somalia intends to push through the rubber stamp bicameral legislature as a politically destabilising plot with the potential to undermine the gradual state-building, bottom up approach pioneered by Puntland State of Somalia.
