Cowke Posted October 4, 2009 This issue at kismayo is indeed a strange one. Simple minded people will say it is religious war between hizbi islam and shabab which i personally can't buy because how can it be religious war if they read the same quran and have the same strict interpretation of islam? I doubt very much so it is religious war, but believe it is clan-political war because i honestly thing the majority of kismayo residents were upset that alot of the positions in the city administration were given to gedo natives whilsts ignoring the original inhabitants of jubba which is ras-kamboni and canoole. First of all ras-kamboni people entered kismayo in 1800s and lived in peace with the swahili populations. The canoole people came into kismayo around 1850 and lived in peace with ras-kamboni and the pre-existing swahili population. However if u look at the pattern when the gedo natives arrived in droves in the 90's the tensions and conflicts began. So my suggestion it is best to leave the town to the people who lived in peace for over 200 years (ras kamboni & canoole) and to remove the gedo natives back to where they originally came from. It is very clear the problem is gedo natives because no tensions existed for 200 years when pre-existing swahili population, ras-kamboni and canoole people lived there. My piece of advice to the gedo natives is, if you can't live with people, then stop ruining the stability and peace of the area and just simply exit. PS: Please guys don't respond with "shabab" is for all somalis and not just gedo people, the kismayo branch is well known to be 80% gedo natives and no amount of "shabab is all somalis" line will change this all-glaring fact. Zinki Posted October 4, 2009 ^Perhaps you have the answer to the questions you so seek for it is those who view the world around them through the evil lenses of Clan that ruin any stability, the balance of any particular society in our large common society which you and i call Somalia. Friend, your above post is a diatribe based on a myopic perception of 'what could have been', a weak attempt and a frail imagination which only seeks to divide a society that is already in its death-bed and pointing fingers and inciting hatred has now become a tasteless commodity which has been exposed for what it truely is. Be it as it is,you should understand for your own good that Islam as you have probably heard but lazily ignored to understand is a way of life, and the practising Muslim who understands the moral obligations needed of him as an individual, is to live like a Muslim. My friend, a proper Muslim doesn't understand and view reality through the myopic lenses that i previously mentioned but rather wants what he himself wants for his other Muslim brother or sister. Having said that, the Mujahideen are not responsibe for the few that still dwell in the dark corners of Ignorance. To them and to any enlighted self,Kismayo belongs to any Muslim regardless of nationality let alone that of a tribe. Lastly, whoever tampers with peace and the harmony that any society enjoys is at fault regardless of what they were or are. P.s.There are some contradictions in your post. majority of kismayo residents were upset that alot of the positions in the city administration were given to gedo natives And then u said this. The kismayo branch is well known to be 80% gedo natives Friend, this shows that you do not know what you are saying for had you known, you would know that it is only logical to deduct that the majority couldn't be angry with the positions going to the majority of the inhabitants. It doesn't make sense! And to correct you further,Gedo like Kismayo and Puntland belong to all Somalis. As for the Shabab, they are no more than one part of the many waves that are to come in Somalia and any where else. This my friend is called the Awakening. Cheers.
