Carson said the United States would also reach out to groups in south central Somalia, including local governments and family clans, that are opposed to Al Shabaab but not aligned formally or directly with the government in Mogadishu. Carson stressed he United States would continue to recognize only a single Somali state and would work to strengthen the transitional government of President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, which has lost control of much of Mogadishu and much of southern and central Somalia to the Al Shabaab rebels.

from the
Foreign Affairs
magazine. It argued for the promotion of a bottom-up approach as a viable solution to Somalia's political and economic crisis. One of its interesting policy prescriptions or recommendations was that it called for either the U.N or the U.S to launch a national deposit fund that doubles almost in half for every dollar every Somali region receives as a remittance from Europe and America. The money will be used to encourage local initiatives and traditional models of governance. At the moment, all the significant financial support and blind attention that Somalia gets have been unfairly given to three entities, one of which is the Transitional Federal Government Somalia (TFG)--the main recipient, while both Puntland" and "Somaliland" have been granted financial incentives to play minor roles for the International Community such as the war against piracy, international terrorism, and the promotion of human rights and democratic principles, though they abuse the responsibility that comes with such collaboration--almost routinely, in their hostile dealings with Maakhir regions

I think this approach will further make irrelevant the aspirations of our regions, as PL and SL entities get the big sums, our regions will be kept on the dark as it has been. The only viable way to be visible oo adduunka laysula socodsiiyo waa in nin walbaa goobtiisa ka taliyo inta Soomaaliyi isu imanayso.

Taleexi, good point laakinse aawi iimaan, iyo aragtidii dheer ee lagu yiqiin dadka reer Sool iyo Sanaag. The Diaspora must go back. I think there's a big vacuum there.

NinaNC, the King needs our support.

The Associated Press,

"To counter al-Shabab, Carson said, the U.S. would also look to support "local governments, clans and sub-clans" in south-central Somalia that do not back either the militia or the federal administration."We will look for opportunities to work with these groups to see if we can identify ways of supporting their development initiatives and activities," he said.

JB, neither Sanaag and Sool and the District of Buuhoodle are part of "Puntland" and "Somaliland"

Our regions are wrongly and unfairly tagged as "disputed regions" and that had had a huge cost on the inhabitants of the region, now held hostage by local warlords affiliated with both entities.

Well then there must be a middle way, some sort of solution for these regions' predicament.

The issue of Galgala + the Prime Minister's resignation has led to a "shift of policy", though the idea was floated by the Washington Post prior to Sharif's project and when former U.S Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Frazier made a surprise visit to Hargeisa.

Look, UNISOM in 1994 recognized Sanaag and Sool regions under the chairman of Awad Ahmed Asharo (a Maakhirian). That was 4 years prior to Puntland's formation.
