Che -Guevara Posted October 16, 2010 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union on Friday announced here that more troops would be deployed to Somalia in few weeks, while the 20,000 maximum troops for Somalia peacekeeping, proposed by IGAD, has been authorized as official AU target. A battalion from Burundi would be deployed in few weeks, raising the current over 7,000 AU Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) troops to the long-awaited 8,000, Ramtane Lamamra, PSC Commissioner, told a news conference at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa at the end of a ministerial meeting on Somalia. The proposal to raise AMISOM's troop size from its initially authorized 8,000 to 20,000 was proposed by the East African grouping' the Inter Governmental Au thority on Development (IGAD) â' in July, just few days ahead of the AU summit in Kampala. Mad_Mullah Posted October 16, 2010 ^ Exactly, now his group will become more legit, as they'll (only?) be fighting the African Union troops. And with Somalia do they mean the entire country, or just Mogadishu (like always)!

NASSIR Posted October 17, 2010 AU's influence in terms of its independent policy formulation and execution is growing much faster. In the long run, it's good for the Continent. ------------- "The African Union (abbreviated AU in English, and UA in its other official languages) is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 53 African states. The only African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established on 9 July 2002,[4] the AU was formed as a successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The most important decisions of the AU are made by the Assembly of the African Union, a semi-annual meeting of the heads of state and government of its member states. The AU's secretariat, the African Union Commission, is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Among the objectives of the AU's leading institutions are: to accelerate the political and socio-economic integration of the continent; to promote and defend African common positions on issues of interest to the continent and its peoples; to achieve peace and security in Africa; and to promote democratic institutions, good governance and human rights. The African Union is made up of both political and administrative bodies. The highest decision-making organ of the African Union is the Assembly, made up of all the heads of state or government of member states of the AU. The Assembly is currently chaired by Bingu wa Mutharika, leader of Malawi, elected at the tenth ordinary meeting of the Assembly in January 2009. The AU also has a representative body, the Pan African Parliament, which consists of 265 members elected by the national parliaments of the AU member states. The current president of the Pan African Parliament is Idriss Ndele Moussa. Source: Wiki.
Taleexi Posted October 17, 2010 African problems should have African solutions and this is one of them.
Mad_Mullah Posted October 17, 2010 It's not an African problem but a Somali one, Africans are aliens to Somalis like Russians to Chechens. Soon enough we'll be hearing of rape, and Africans bombing civilian areas in Somalia. Shabab will just launch a guerilla war against the AU winning in the end. Taleexi Posted October 17, 2010 Clearly, Somalis raping, maiming, and murdering other Somalis are exceptions to your logic. Your position is not only an intellectual insult but unjust and inhuman.
Mad_Mullah Posted October 17, 2010 Although some of the above happen in Southern Somalia, having Foreign troops will only escelate the trouble. The Ajanib will just further us into chaos and destruction.
London2010 Posted October 17, 2010 This is good news. I hope they route out and kill all the Shabaab devil, once and for all. These people have to be eliminated.
NASSIR Posted October 17, 2010 Your nick "Mad Mullah" is a British coined disparaging name for the Father of Somali Nation, Sayid Mohamed, yet you worry abt African Union's active role in the continent. Wlc the African peace-keepers.

You reckon it will be more of the same? I think Godane and his group have lost many supporters along the way. Some people are happy to have ANY kinds of troops against them now.
