Peace reigns in Lower Jubba, first punishments carried out.

To show their respect of the law, the Gedo clans in Kismaayo have given up a confirmed killer to the clan of his victim. This is a turning point in the civil war relationship between Somalis and represents one of the success stories of Xeer or customary law. It is an action to applaud and something we hope is replicated throughout the Republic.

Somalia: First Case - Berhani Reconciliation Agreement Implemented

Shabelle Media Network (Mogadishu)

Aweys Osman Yusuf

Mogadishu

As a part of the implementation of Berhani agreement between the ---- and -------- sub-clans, public execution was carried out in Kismanyo District.

On July 23 of this month, a comprehensive peace agreement was reached and signed in Berhano facilitated by the Center for Research and Dialogue - Somalia (CRD).

One of the key issues agreed was that Shari'a law is decided to be a referring law among clans. In the event of Killing, the clans will surrender the assassin or killer to other clan. Yesterday at 10:20-morning local time, Max'ed Cabdulahi Jabane known as "Timo Jilac" intentionally killed Mr. Gaaboow Ibrahim from -------- sub-clan. Within 20 minutes of the killings, ---- Sub-clan captures the perpetrator/killer and brought to the other clan. Mr Timo-Jilac has confessed to the crime. This is action is rarely seen in the Somali clan allegiance system. Clans do not surrender one of their own easily.

After Islamic due process, both clans agreed to carry out public execution. "This joint action by the two clans is a signal for people of Kismanyo that Durable Peace is finally here"

Yusuf Dhere who witnessed the public execution said, "We can now sleep with little better because no one is dare to take another persons line with impunity"

Residents of Kismayo and surrounding communities have welcome this step and with sense of celebration.

^xaa ku qoslee.

Is it my eyes or is the guy enjoying his last smoke before the 'first punishment' is achieved?

How come there's no mention of the legal process in which the alleged killer is convicted and sentenced to death. Odayaal under geed qurac acting judge and jury at the same time? The militia that secured his captute and custody have no clean hands. Selective justice & cruel punishment should not be used for the purpose of peace initiative between two rival clans. Oh no. That won't stop the hostility of these waring militias.

War yaa yiraahda masaakiinta Ilaahey iska daaya. Qeybaa dilkooda iyo dhocooda waa neccessaryly appropriate kuwana waa qisaas. Erayga qisaas baa meel looga dhacay.

^I know you're, just like everyone else, a big fan of the beesha.

What are your thoughts on this Gedoland aka Beesha Land Now that it has the beesha signature, it must be genuine editorial.
