Somali government suspects Al-Shabaab of executing 100 of its wounded fighters

The Somali government believes that the jihadist group Al Shabaab has massacred more than a hundred of its own wounded fighters during the withdrawal a week ago from its stronghold of Adal Jabal, now back in the hands of the Somali Army following operations in the Middle Shabelle region.

According to authorities, Somali security forces earlier this week discovered several mass graves in the area containing the mortal remains of jihadist fighters.

All the bodies, according to the government, bore “secondary wounds” that had prevented them from escaping the advance of Somali forces.

In its statement on Friday, reported by the Hiiraan on Line portal, the government condemned what it described as an “un-Islamic and immoral massacre”.

The Federal Government of Somalia repudiates these abuses committed by the jauarij (the “renegades” of the true nature of Islam); acts that “are outside the Somali culture, Islam and Humanity”.
