LashayaHughes Posted July 25, 2022 According to a joint report by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, World Food Programme and Food and Agriculture Organization, Somalia could have as many as 300,000 people facing starvation this year in Somalia and South Sudan, due to drought and conflict. And the report published on Friday says at least 51 million people in the Horn of Africa will be food insecure in 2022. In Somalia, 7.1 million people, nearly half of the total population in Somalia, are facing historical levels of drought with the likelihood of advancing into a deadly famine. The calamity has been caused by successive failures of three years of rainy seasons in parts of the Horn of Africa region.
HajiGuuleed Posted August 10, 2022 Not really as Somaliland does not have food shortages also the same with Djibouti. The truth of the matter is that the federal government of Somalia is deeply incompetent at managing the affairs of the Somali people. The rains failing and Ethiopian dams cannot explain why the towns and cities in the south are facing food shortages when Somalia has the largest coast line in Africa full of fish. We need a patriotic government that deals with the pressing issues of our people instead of a president running around on foreign trips. I do believe that Hassan Sheikh is deeply incompetent due to him being in way over his head and unable to seriously provide practical solutions to the Somali people. Holac Posted August 20, 2022 Even if there was no drought, most Somalis don’t have the skills and willingness to do farming, which is critical for food supply. For the last 70 years, our people were taught to look down on farming. If you are not a Geeljire, you are a lowborn. Our country has so much resources it is unbelievable.
