Hibo Posted April 19, 2002 Parents who smoke produce fewer boys, according to research on Japanese couples. The researchers do not know the mechanism for the effect, but they say both the mother's and father's smoking habits are important. Stress, temperature, birth order and even the number of wives in a man's harem are all known to influence the relative proportions of girls and boys at birth. But this is the first time birth sex ratio and smoking have been linked. The researchers questioned over 5000 Japanese women on their smoking habits and those of their partner around the time they conceived their children. The 11,815 births reported were then split into groups based on parental smoking habits and the team compared the ratio of boys to girls in each category. If neither parent smoked, boys made up about 55 per cent of births. But if both mum and dad were puffing over 20 cigarettes a day this dropped to 45 per cent.. Even if just the father was a light smoker, the proportion of boys was lower. Weaker sperm "We cannot say where the effect is," says research team member Anne Byskov at the University Hospital of Copenhagen, Denmark. But she speculates that Y bearing sperm or male foetuses or both are more sensitive to the effects of cigarette Previous research has shown differences between X and Y carrying sperm, says Alexander Lerchl at the International University Bremen, Germany: "Y bearing sperm may be a bit faster swimming, but not as long lasting". This might suggest that Y carriers are less robust, but he warns the evidence is only weak. The study does not attempt to account for other factors such as diet and stress levels that might correlate with smoking. Lerchl says we know that smokers take more health risks and that these factors must be ruled out. Journal reference: The Lancet (vol 359, p 1407) For more Info. Hibo Posted April 19, 2002 Interesting! So this toxic substance is to blame for the world getting populated by more Women and lesser Men(?) - My parents never smoked and yet had 7girls - no boys! Undoubtedly, fourteen centuries ago its been predicted in the Qur'an Women will outnumber Men - ratio of 1 man to 50 women. It is irony that these restless researchers always repeatedly apply science/biology/ logic to something thats Godly intentions. What are they going to tell us next - "What Food is best to eat that prevents death." Ax! na dhaafa ku dheh. God Bless. ------------------ "He tried to be somebody by trying to be like everybody, which makes him a nobody."

ARAWEELO Posted April 22, 2002 Shaqsi very interesting topic. I was reading this article that talked about how to increase the chances of conception of either a baby boy or a girl. The study said the Y bearing sperms ( male )are smaller faster and tent to die sooner, while the X bearing sperms ( female ) are heavier slower and can survive longer. The reality is any harsh environment such as chemicals present in cigarettes such as cynide and others can eliminate the more active and less resistant Y bearing sperms. This is just one of the factors but not the only one. There is a good factor about male bearing Y sperms since they are faster they get to the OVA (Female egg) first which is a positive aspect. That means more Shaqsii and other nomad kings to be born. Lots of Love!
Hibo Posted April 23, 2002 Araweelo as long as I can run faster then there is achance of more kings but if Im any slower then we got more Araweelos and queens arriving......no wonder we got more women than men....this could be right ------------------ ("`-''-/").___..--''"`-._ `6_ 6 ) `-.
