Muhammad Posted January 13, 2005 » Asalamu Alaykum, I dedicate this thread to Somalia, Palestine, Iraq, Chechnya, Kashmir, Afghanistan, and to all those living in Struggle. please take part and post your poems. I think it is appropriate to start with Tawfiq Zayyad's All I Have I never carried a rifle On my shoulder Or pulled a trigger. All I have Is a flute's melody A brush to paint my dreams, A bottle of ink. All I have Is unshakeable faith And an infinite love For my people in pain. Muhammad Posted January 20, 2005 » Asalamu Alaykum, Passport - Mahmoud Darwish [ Palestine ] They did not recognize me in the shadows That suck away my color in this Passport And to them my wound was an exhibit For a tourist Who loves to collect photographs They did not recognize me, Ah . . . Don't leave The palm of my hand without the sun Because the trees recognize me All the songs of the rain recognize me Dont' leave me pale like the moon! All the birds that followed my palm To the door of the distant airport All the wheatfields All the prisons All the white tombstones All the barbed boundaries All the waving handkerchiefs All the eyes were with me, But they dropped them from my passport Stripped of my name and identity? On a soil I nourished with my own hands? Today Job cried out Filling the sky: Don't make an example of me again! Oh, gentlemen, Prophets, Don't ask the trees for their names Don't ask the valleys who their mother is From my forehead bursts the sword of light And from my hand springs the water of the river All the hearts of the people are my identity So take away my passport! J.Lee Posted January 23, 2005 Somalia So maal Caana’ah The Land of Milk And Honey Of Acacia and palm Trees That kiss each other Like old lovers The place where The shah placed his seat And seeds were implanted Yet formed roots in different places Land of Faces of varies skin tones Like a kaleidoscopic rainbow but with no pot of gold at the end Land where death is welcomed Like a dear friend gone too long Where Life forms flicker Like a lit candle in the wind I was born in this Land that I call my home but can't call it my own Yet I mourn though I have nothing at stake I’m an ocean away But my heart breaks To pieces like glass that shatters Hearing tales so cold Of 6 year olds Who fear old age More than death With every breath Gaining optimistic pessimism Of Lost innocence So understand why My eyes begin to mist Why I see optical Illusions Like I’m deluded Losing sight of sight Wishing to see peace where my heart Met my Mind But seeming like I’m blind I’m not hopeless Completely But the hope is less dearly but I still dream of peace thou it doesn’t dream of me nor those eternally sleep under 6 feet deep
