- diamond princess - Posted July 24, 2003 Wad Up?! Just wanted to ask you what you think of Christina'z New Song...Here's the lyrics: So what am I not supposed to have an opinion Should I be quiet just because I'm a woman Call me a b!tch cos I speak what's on my mind Guess it's easier for you to swallow if I sat and smiled When a female fires back Suddenly the target don't know how to act So he does what any little boy will do Making up a few false rumors or two That for sure is not a man to me Slanderin' names for popularity It's sad you only get your fame through controversy But now it's time for me to come and give you more to say This is for my girls all around the world Who've come across a man who don't respect your worth Thinking all women should be seen, not heard So what do we do girls? Shout louder! Letting them know we're gonna stand our ground Lift your hands high and wave them proud Take a deep breath and say it loud Never can, never will, can't hold us down Nobody can hold us down Nobody can hold us down Nobody can hold us down Never can, never will So what am I not supposed to say what I'm saying Are you offended by the message I'm bringing Call me whatever cos your words don't mean a thing Guess you ain't even a man enough to handle what I sing If you look back in history It's a common double standard of society The guy gets all the glory the more he can score While the girl can do the same and yet you call her a whore I don't understand why it's okay The guy can get away with it & the girl gets named All my ladies come together and make a change Start a new beginning for us everybody sing This is for my girls all around the world Who've come across a man who don't respect your worth Thinking all women should be seen, not heard What do we do girls? Shout louder! Letting them know we're gonna stand our ground Lift your hands high and wave 'em proud Take a deep breath and say it loud Never can, never will, can't hold us down Lil' Kim: Check it - Here's something I just can't understand If the guy have three girls then he's the man He can either give us some head, sex her off If the girl do the same, then she's a whore But the table's about to turn I'll bet my fame on it Cats take my ideas and put their name on it It's aiight though, you can't hold me down I got to keep on movin' To all my girls with a man who be tryin to mack Do it right back to him and let that be that You need to let him know that his game is whack And Lil' Kim and Christina Aguilera got your back But you're just a little boy Think you're so cute, so coy You must talk so big To make up for small lil' things So you're just a little boy All you'll do is annoy You must talk so big To make up for small lil' things This is for my girls... This is for my girls all around the world Who've come across a man who don't respect your worth Thinking all women should be seen, not heard So what do we do girls? Shout louder! Letting them know we're gonna stand our ground Lift your hands high and wave 'em proud Take a deep breath and say it loud Never can, never will, can't hold us down This is for my girls all around the world Who've come across a man who don't respect your worth Thinking all women should be seen, not heard So what do we do girls? Shout louder! Letting them know we're gonna stand our ground Lift your hands high and wave 'em proud Take a deep breath and say it loud Never can, never will, can't hold us down Spread the word, can't hold us down This song made me realize how double standard has taken affect of us somali'z as well. Tell me what you think. It alwayz a wonder why men get away with more things then woman.

silent-sistah Posted July 27, 2003 well,,,,,im not going to disagree with her liyrics,,i understand where she is coming from. however, if you ladies were looking for empowerement, some-one that stuck up for women, and you want women to stand up for them-selves, raise their self-esteem... i think you should have looked into Islam. you could have just placed up a thread, about how women are put down, in this world, the punishments for spreading rumours about innocent girls, how guys and girls get the same punishement for adultory yet most cultures applaud the guys and shame the girls... i think you get my drift,,,maybe i sound harsh or insensitive,,,but i dont mean to be. SomeAlien Posted July 27, 2003 i dislike c. aguilera. i can agree with her song cause its true how women have to deal with these ridiculous double standards, and slaying of character whenever we do something "unfeminine" (who decides whats feminine anyways, wouldnt anything a woman does be feminine since the person doing it is a " femme"?) like voice an opinion or be tough. my problem with aguilera is she falls right into those traps by traipsing about in tiny "cute" outfits, making sexy "dirrty" videos, posing for MAXIM an STUFF magazine and etc. now, she may be doing this to make a point, why are guys celebrated when they explore their sexuual side? or why are they allowed to exploit women in their videos? but something tells me otherwise. first of all, shes no revolutionary. this song and dance has been done to death by madonna (whom i like and can respect for her honesty. she openly admits that her image got her where she is and she constantly plays it up). i mean, in no way is it cool to make judgements on people because of what they look like, but this girl is making money on what she "looks" like.2) this is a voyeuristic world we live in, bill boards, magazines, television, movies, they all got something in common. they use women to sell things. her video "dirrty", which was a remix of redmans "lets get dirty", got way more airplay than the original. why? cause their was a half naked girl singing in it, duh. this video as well is getting air play cause shes half naked with lil kim. she knows very well what shes doing, shes making money. but at the expense of what? everything women every where have been fighitng for for yrs. which is not to be looked at like a sexual objects. now im not saying shes responsible for this, shes just making money on a time honored recipe. good for her, but im not gonna applaud her for following the waves. nafta Posted July 27, 2003 i agree with somealien, because she might have a point saying that ppl over judge women, but when a guy does it, he's da man! But it's still vulgar the way she dresses, she should be advertsing herself like that if she is so proud of her womanhood. And all i gotta say is with that kinda clip dont bring us down

Reality Check Posted July 28, 2003 Let's look at this for what it really is: A pop song! It's not meant to last ...more than a coupla months! Personally, this is just Christina's way of addressing the issue...how ever over commercialized it may be.. Oh well
