Hibo Posted September 24, 2001 A friend of mine wrote this, I thought I would share it with ya all.... It has inspired me indeed. EnjoY it>> Why did you make me black Lord... Lord... Why did you make me black? Why did you make someone the world would hold back? Black is the color of dirty clothes, of grimy hands and feet.... Black is the color of darkness, of tired beaten streets... Why did you give me thick lips, a broad nose kinky hair? Why did you create someone who receives the hated stare? Black is the color of the bruised eye when someone gets hurt... Black is the color of darkness black is the color of dirt. Why is my bone structure so thick, my hips and cheeks so high? Why are my eyes brown and not the color of the sky? Why do people think I`m useless? How come I feel so used? Why do people see my skin and think I should be abused? Lord, I just dont understand... What is it about my skin? Why is it some people want to hate me and not know the person within? Black is what other people are "Labeled" when others want to keep them away.... Black is the color of shadows cast Black is the end of day. Lord you know my own people mistreat me, and you know this just aint`t right... The dont like my hair, they don`t like me skin, as they say I`m too dark or too light! Lord, don`t you think it`s time to make a chage? Why don`t you redo creation and make everyone the same? God`s Reply: I made you in the color of coal from which beautifuldiamonds are formed... I made you in in the color of oil the black gold which keeps people warm. Your color is the same as the rich dark soil that grows the food you need... Your color is the same as the black stallion and panther, Oh what a majestic creature indeed! All colors of the heavenly rainbow can be found throught ever nation... When all these colors are blended, you become my greatest creation! Your hair is the texture of lamb`s wool, such a beautiful creature is he... I am the shepherd who watches them, I will ALWAYS watch over thee! You are the color of the midnight sky, I put the star glitter in your eyes... There`s a beautiful smile hidden behind your pain... Thats why your cheeks are so high! You are the color of dark clouds from hurricanes I create in September... I made your lips so full and thick, so when you kiss...they will remember! Your stature is strong, your bone structure thick to withstand the burden of time... The reflection you see in the mirror, that image that looks back, that is MINE! So get off your knees, look into the mirror and tell me what you see? I didn`t make you in the image of darkness... I made you in the image of ME! ------------------ "All colors of the heavenly rainbow can be found through ever nation... When all these colors are blended, black become God's greatest creation"

Quite -Storm Posted February 26, 2002 This poem is Haraam and ite not allowed in muslim religion. Accudaa Billah meena Shidaan Raajim
Hibo Posted February 26, 2002 Sis that poem is haraam just like Q-storm said. I know you didn't write it, but as you already know its haraam to say that God said such and such when God didn't say that at all. P.S It would have been nice if it was xalaal though. Salaam
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted October 15, 2003 Salaan... It is not only xaraan, it was wrote by someone and was intended for some people who suffer from inferiority complex--supposedly by African-Americans to themselves. It doesn't really inspire, rather disgraces their race to the point of lowliness. Talking about 'thick' lips, 'kinky' hair, 'big broad' nose, etc, clearly shows how lower rank and status those physical qualities are to them, thus aspiring to have gentle lips, soft hair and straight nose. ________________ P.S.: That poem would never really inspire Soomaalis, since most Soomaalis do not suffer from inferiority complex, such the aforementioned physical qualities. One clear thing we suffer from is superiority complex, not otherwise. ______________ Macsalaama.

-Lily- Posted October 13, 2008 It's rather hypocritical to moan about people thinking they are better than you only to end up saying you're better than everyone else...oh not to mention the xaram aspect of it.
BOB Posted October 13, 2008 Pity Hibo isn't here any more to defend herself... Lily...waa ku salaamay nooh...lol Peace, Love & Unity.
Sherban Shabeel Posted March 10, 2009 I find it's a beautiful poem. The way I see it, the subject is brought down by those around him, and made to believe that his features are ugly. But then God - as haraam as this is of course - says that his features are beautiful even though they're different. I think the poem illustrates beautifully the struggle of the Black American with his own identity, the struggle to regain self-esteem after centuries of being looked down on an treated like an animal. The_Siren Posted March 15, 2009 ^- Well said, and I'm liking you more and more Mister Shabeel. Now I'm no poncy poetical guru but I know what I like and I liked that poem very much. It was emotional, tense and disheartening in the beginning but then it quickly transformed into something uplifting, warming and cunningly humorous. Was it wonderful? Yes it was...its a moving and very jolly read as well as thought provoking in a self-effacing-non ostentatious manner, despite its grievances with the lord. The_Siren Posted March 15, 2009 Oh and I think you may have misunderstood it people, the end when God is making a correlation between the black person and himself- its in relation to the Christian belief that god made man in his image and as a result all of the Lords creation is a mirror of the divine. Utter bollocks ofcourse but its the idea that God looks like all of his creation, be they white, black, yellow or tainted red. No race is better than the rest its just that in this instant God is making a personalized connection to one of deeply insecure creations. Whose to say the response would not have been the same had it come from a Chinese person? I can see it now, your skin is yellow and as fierce as the majestic sun. LOL Istafurullah but you get my jist
ADNAAN Posted March 28, 2009 ^^ spot on, the poem has a strong message when you overlook the religious dimension to it. Who said somalis don't suffer from "inferiorty complex"? If that is the case, why do we see so many young girls use skin lightening products to look "pretty"?
