galbeedi Posted October 25, 2021 If they hold elections just for the sake of getting some money from the donors like Somaliland, then they are doomed. Rather than 'Gole Deegaan' which in turn selects the mayor, they should demarcate wards and neighborhood first and elect the mayor directly. We will be watching whether Puntland intends to give the people voice or window dressing .
Che -Guevara Posted October 25, 2021 Probably a window the dressing for now.

Excellent move by Puntland, this is will give people to experiment and learn governing by the peoples votes. And surprisingly 1/3 of elected Council members are women. I think only the number of local Councillers is quite excessive, 27 council members for a town of 5000 people, might lead to overkill as all these councillers might expect benefits, influence and status.

This is the first lesson that must be learned from this election. Reduce the councilmen to three for a town of that size. 27 kulahaa, meeshu ma baarlamaanbaa. Correction, 5000 is not the number of the population in the district but the number registered to vote.

Ok, educate us how many constituencies in Bay & Bakool can be voted in same way as Qardho, Ufeyn and Eyl?
