Castro Posted February 8, 2007 Ibtisam, don't tear up your foreign sharci and stuff. You may find it too difficult to live in Hargeisa and may return faster than you thought possible. Virtually nothing is made in Somaliland so anything you import, you can sell. I don't want to sale qaad, or being a jaraita Don't worry, you'll face stiff competition from qaad sellers to make it not worth your effort. And I don't even want to know what a jaraita is. Best of luck. Send regular reports.

Som@li Posted February 8, 2007 ^NGO, the way most of them work in Somalia is unethical and immoral, stealing all the money intended for poor and needy, what scum. May they rot in hell all those who cheat the poor. Ibti,Welcome.
Valenteenah. Posted February 8, 2007 Actually, NGOs provide badly needed health and welfare services. Without them, who would be providing those services? You? The govt? Don't make me laugh.
Ms DD Posted February 8, 2007 Actually Dabshid is quite correct to a certain extent. Dad badan baa ku lafo ruuga and hide behinf NGOs. I was tempted myself to remain in Boosaaso and work for one. It was quite tempting. To say all of them are immoral would be generalising but huge number of them are.
BOB Posted February 8, 2007 You can marry a guy who owns a fleet of Roadblocks...so you can enjoy one at the time each day of the week..how about that? I heard its a Booming business once you own one...lool I haven't been to Somalia since 91 but the best trick is not to have any expectations at all as you can't foretell what kind of situation awaits you there or you might end up being disappointed big time.. Just enjoy the moment and I'm sure you will figure something out once you get there Insha Allah and make sure you go after it. I wish you and the rest of the family a safe Journey back Home Insha Allah and please pass my undying love to Motherland. Salam Aleikum W.W Peace, Love & Unity. RedSea Posted February 8, 2007 Oh,what is this? I didnt' even see this topic, oh how wasnt' the first one to respond to this. I must make it up to you sister in some way Insh Allah. Anyways, most these peepz here way kaa waaleen. Waxba ha ka dhagaysan. I think one of the best advice is mr. Brown (well not the road block one) by the way this isnt' war torn city buddy, what you mean by 'road blocks', you must apologize to my lovely hometown waryaa hooy. However, the best advice that brown gave which was that you shouldn't set your expectations to high. You should think of it, as though you are going back home( and it is), which you havent' been to for long time or perhaps never, it's your land, the place you were meant to be, the people walking down the street are YOUR people not foreigners, the soil you are walking is somali soil, which is yours. You should be thankful for the smallest details, if you go in there with that kinda of mindset, I am sure, you will never be interested in any other place on earth besides Hargeysa. My take on: I think setting up a community center in one of the neighborhoods would be a great idea. The center would serve youth, elderly and all sorts of persons. Educating people on many health issues, educational needs etc... As for anything else...dee what can I say, I am proud of you and your family. I am not much behind. See you in Hargeysa Insha Allah. Allow yaa ku raaco Ibtisam, Intuu London kaa raroo, Meelu rabadku dhalayoo, dhirta rucubka lulatoo, Rays iyo barwaaqo leh, Hargeysa kula degaa, Ramashadii Hargeysa , Lugta gacan libaax, Masalaha roogiisu iyo, Yaa Burco kula dagaa. Allow yaa kuraacoo, intuu England kaa raro, meel uu ramad ku dhalayoo, laguu wadaa raaxeeyoo, Ruuxaad lakulanto, Dadku raali kaa yahay.
hodman Posted February 8, 2007 LOL ar RED Inanta maxaad ugu tarisaysaa. Ibtisam honey Hargeisa is an interesting place but stay away from clothing and groceries unless you have millions to invest otherwise it's a lost cause, everyone is doing it. My advise would be to look around at the already existing businesses to see which one is most viable Telecom business is booming no doubt so if you want a hands off investment then listen to J’baro otherwise join one of the many established NGO’s. As someone pointed out they do crucial work

-Lily- Posted February 8, 2007 How about importing medicine? As for NGOs, sorry but not all of them provide desparately needed services (unless its health). Most of them are part of the problem. Good luck ibti and keep us updated.
