Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Galkayo-Hobyo Road Project funded under Somalia Stabilization Program began with funds raised by beneficiary communities and matched by funds from several European countries. Reports have emerged that UK aid cuts have affected the project.

Galmudug State administration has yet to confirm the reduction of funds that donors have committed to the project. “Development aid is partly based on needs assessment and is sometimes affected by domestic pressures to cut aid to the developing countries” said a Somali postwar reconstruction expert in Mogadishu.

Aid cuts have affected several projects in Somalia including Somaliland Development Fund. “This is not the first time this has happened, nor is it likely to be the last. Because of unexplainable prejudices, certain regions are continuously shut out of development assistance; and in the case above, even when local communities foot a significant chunk of the bill” tweeted Adan Cabdulle.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has replaced the Department for International Development.
