Recommended Posts

Marwa Al-Shirbini a young Muslim killed for her hijab in Germany. She was stabbed 18 times in court. When her husband tried protecting her, he wasn’t safe either, and was shot by the police, and then going into a coma for three days. When her husband finally woke up, he discovered that his wife, and mother of his child was actually killed for being a Muslima proud of her hijab.

Marwa Shirbeenee

By Eman Issa

This poem is dedicated to Marwa Shirbeeni, who was a daughter, wife, and mother.

She was carrying a great, huge boulder.

On a hot, sunny, Germany day, they went to a park.

A man was spying that looked like a shark.

He looked at her and called her oppressed.

Simply because of the way she dressed.

He knew her for what not inside.

He judged the clothing she wore with pride.

She was not plagued with oppression.

She was neither cheated nor abused.

She didn’t envy other women,

and NO! she certainly wasn’t confused.

When she walked, she walked with dignity.

When she spoke with the cops, she did not lie.

They went to court, where she spoke out loud.

For she had a voice so she would be heard,

for in her heart she carried God’s word:

“O ye women, wrap close your cloak,

so you won’t be bothered by ignorant folk.”

Man did not tell her to dress that way.

It was law from god that she obeyed.

She tried to defend herself by speaking out loud.

In front of her great, huge crowd.

The man got so mad and stabbed 18 times.

Boy, it looked like he had enzymes.

Her poor husband who tried to defend,

got shot by the police were they the sharks friend?

Where were the security guards who check the people?

They let an armed man in, how feeble?

Germany, we had problems with you before.

Remember Adolf Hitler, please no more!

Why did he kill an innocent woman?

She could’ve done a lot.

She could’ve climbed mountains, or crossed the sea.

She could’ve expanded her mind in all degrees.

Hijab was given to her many years ago.

With the right to prosper the right to grow.

The shark made her son an orphan.

With no mother, no Jannah under any feet.

It all started back to that day,

when that hungry shark looked for a prey.

She looked like a perfect prey.

But he still didn’t understand her veil.

She was a Muslim woman, pity on the shark.

For god has guided her to the truth,

and now she is finally in rest and in peace.
