Thinkerman Posted November 24, 2004 Nice Photo Collection Its a shame really. The situation on the ground could be vastly improved for ordinary individuals if those aspiring for power werent so selfish corrupt and inept. Inshallah the conditions on the ground can improve for families like Raho's. Thinks like electricity water and education ($7 per child a month) shouldnt cost an arm an a legg for a serious gorvenment.

Alle-ubaahne Posted November 26, 2004 Indeed, am very saddened by the fact those people are victimized because some thuggish warlords decided to engage in a war that is extremely costly to the lives of the innocent people. Walaahi am touched by those horrifying pictures, and I think there is no Muslim who can't be moved by those pictures. If anyone can obtain a reliable contact Number for that dismantled family, let me know, am more than happy to pledge something, insha allah. And thanx for the brother who raised this topic as well as the bbc link for us to glance at the effects of the dirty war.

Thinkerman Posted March 1, 2005 Somalia: A woman's perspective Mariam is a successful and well-known businesswoman in Mogadishu, running a busy hotel which holds parties and weddings in Kilometre Five in the south of the city. It is our duty to show now what we can do for Somalia, politically Mariam Arif Qassim Traditionally, she says, women have been excluded from politics and peacekeeping - in many of the initial Somali peace conferences following the civil war, there was no official role at all for women in the discussions. This time, the Kenya peace conference made special provision for women, and Mariam says she is confident they will now be taken seriously.
