Tigray Government Outlines Conditions for Durable Ceasefire in Ethiopia

Mekelle (PP News Desk) — The Government of Tigray has shared with the media a set of conditions for durable ceasefire following the withdrawal of Ethiopian forces from Mekelle and other key districts of Tigray.

Tigray Government demands complete withdrawal of Amhara and Eritrean forces in Tigray; the establishment of an independent investigative body tasked with bringing war criminals behind massacres and looting in Tigray to book; an unimpeded access for aid organisations into Tigray; restoration of key services such as telecommunications and healthcare amenities; calls for a respect for the constitution of Ethiopia to allow the democratically elected government of Tigray to resume its work.

The government of Tigray views the establishment of an international body entrusted with the task of overseeing implementation of peacemaking modalities as the way forward.

The Ethiopian government has not issued a policy statement on Tigray beyond its claim that its forces had withdrawn from Tigray due to political and military pressures.
