xactly what does genetalia have to do with ones cooking abilities? how old are you??

iph yr talking about prophessional cooks than yeah, there are more successphul male chephs than phemale but thats cause the title cheph aphords more power and respect than house wiphe does. tis all about titles with yr species... hopephully we'll use that to our advantage when the revolution comes.

by the way a certain letter in the alphabet can not be displayed, please bare with me... tis still readable though.

Well, when it comes to cooking, I've to be the success story of the YEAR! Having lived at a home with a cook, I never had to lift a finger to either cook or clean. Mum would often suggest I learn a few things so I can manage when I go to uni but I'd always brush it off sayin "Mum, trust me, I dont need to exhaust myself in da heat, it does not take a genuis to figure how to make a few meals and besides what r restaurants and cafetaria's 4 :D ".Could I be more wrong - NO!

My first initial shock on 'living alone' was when I learned my flats were self-catering and the cafeteria was quite a distance away. Panic set in but I still convinced myself I could manage and tried to maintain a reasonably cool composure. For the 1st couple of weeks I lived on fast food..to the point where I felt sick of hearin the word pizza. To make things worse, the girls I live with cooked delectable meals while I lived on tasteless junk. I was on the verge of packing and leaving...but..couldnt..I didnt want mama to say "I TOLD U SO"... So, I went shopping for plates, cutlery and got a cooking book and started PRACTICE :D . I've put more food in the garbage than I ate, broke half my plates, for some weird reason always put my forks n spoon in da garbage accidentally but eventually learned from the experience. In a span of 8 months, I've transformed from a not-able-to-make-a-decent-tea to a self sufficient young lady who is the delight of her entire flat and all her friends...who cooks 3 course meals..excellently cooked to perfection in half an hr.

Moral of my Story - Necessity is the mother of invention! And you dont need to exhaust yourself...when the time comes -u'll know what to do :D

PS. Shaqsii..maybe I'll take u on that challenge.. despite you having more experience, I'm sure I can throw in a few surprises ;)

Suddenly there are reppercusions of not wanting to learn and not wanting to do. As Grey puts it she had to bin alot of food and utensils, break them and most of all eat pizza to the extent where she felt sick of it. If only she paid heed to her Mom she woundnt have had all the above problems. In any case she learned from her misgivings and managed to eventually stay in the hot kitchen. Lucky you never ended up with food poisoning. Well done Lassie.

Just an observation I thought I'd share with my nomads. Why is that all the professinal cooks are mainly male? We'll if you spent every morning, evening and night in the kitchen..are you seriously gonna go out and make a career out of it when u HAVE to cook for your kids, and/or, husband? Heck naaw..you're go something a lil' different from your daily routine. So fellas, y'all still aint better cooks than females-not by a long shot lol..y'all just starting out, we been doing since we were kids.

Cooking? eheheheh! Well, to be honest I am usually too lazy but when I plan to cook, I do cook "exceedingly" delicious dishes, trust me it can be marketed. It is just the painstaking work that go with it that troubles me.... First you are to chop this and that, peel this and that, cut this and that ... add alittle bit of this and that, stir it like this and that ... It gets to my nerves. However the good news is, I have the skill to cook and If become a chief it will pay well.

Not sure how many of you are aware, but men have taken over the culinary field long before any of us were born.

Notice how all the great chef's are men, whether they be asian, french or italian.

I'm a huge fan of the "IRON CHEF" show, thats where the best of the best come and compete against each other and I have yet to lay my eyes on a female chef.(only chef's that been on the game for 15-20yrs come to compete there, some of them took over from their grandfathers showcase their talent at the IRON CHEF COMPETITIONS)

Instead of arguining about which gender is a better cook, y'all should be taking notes from the young Jamie Oliver a.k.a the "NAKED CHEF".

He is young, he is adorable looking and he can cook a mean ass meal anytime.(and no I am not taken by his accent, but his ability to make something out of nothing)

Ok Nasra I have to say first and foremost this used to be an art that was perfected by women and because so many have lost it we the men have to come up and make sure that what our moms and grannies restapies don’t go down the drain since a lot of the sisters come to view cooking as something that belittles them or at least that’s the impression I usually talk of kitchens etc.

It has also come to my attention too that when u go to major restaurants world word and the best of chefs we see men taking over. As for Somalis I tell you what I wouldn’t mind starting a cooking contest between the girls who still got it and those who think they can still do it but prefer having long nails polished than prepare a meal.

Its great to see that your Mom did a grand job and taught you how to cook. I have a few friends of mine who depend mainly on take aways and boy have they grown big or what. I guess you would have to blame laziness for their sudden trailers.

Believe me some of our moms could cook without ever looking at books as they used their experiences and instinct to make that unforgetable cake, tea or iskuduuuugJ:

SHAQSII ARE YOU REFERRING TO ME AS "NASRA" BECAUSE IF SO THAN YOU ARE MISTAKEN...BIG TIME.

MY NICK AS YOU CAN SEE IS LUCKY.

LoL @ Shaqsii! Cooking for 10 years? Poor sod, u need to get married ASAP!!! icon_razz.gif

Shaqsii, had you made that statement a year ago, I would have laughed hysterically. However, having tasted the cooking of some bachelor-mates of mine, I think you may be on to something. There are some really skilled brothers out there.

Havin said that, I also happen to agree with Ameenah and Psycho-Sue. Cooking the same meals day-in, day-out, year-in and year-out kills your spirit and whatever luv you may hav had for cooking.

I still believe we are the better cooks tho. smile.gif
