I have seen the interview of a local Gaalkacayo man who killed 17 people over ten years. He flowed similar methods . Sometimes, when the security people show up at the murder scene, he points them to the wrong direction. 

When I listened that interview and many others, the Al shabaab issue is no longer a military issue, but a law enforcement matter. A well trained investigators and detectives could crack most of these cases. Usually when a major robbery or active shootings take place, you cordon the whole perimeter and check both people and vehicles.

You could arrest and detain anyone, especially young people you encounter in the murder scene. There are cheap electronic equipments to check for gun residue to determine if someone had shot a gun hours ago. Corruption and incompetence kills in these days. Small detective work could eliminate Al-shabaab killers in big cities like Mogadishu, Gaalkacayo or Boosaaso.

^^very true , many cases could have easily be solved by well trained eye. Every crime leaves something to identify who did it.

The don’t even close the crime scenes, and some businesses operational within hours.

The other major point of investigation,  is shabaab taxing and collecting money, if government and well trained staff, softwares dig into transactions,  many of the leaders can be caught. 

Complacency puts everyone in danger.

Be careful what you post. These group have been in courts since last year. While thrre are corrupt judges in Puntland like any other Somali place, these are special cases. Innocent people usually dwell in jails without trail. 

I think Puntland had shown a backbone and swift action on these killers.

There is a lot there to criticize Puntland leaders, specially their never ending deranged actions to undermine every Central Government in Mogadishu for last for the last 12 years or so, if they aren't the President or Prime minister.

But when it comes to this issue of Shabaab, they're 100% correct in my judgement - even if they execute few innocent collaborators - no mercy for Shabab - its the many more lives that this will save along the way and the message it sends to the these Shabaab killers...
