I have a useful(perhaps) list of job-related Dubai links that I want to post here but I can't access right now- I will as soon as. So, you'll excuse me if I don't post anything constructive yet. To continue in a light-hearted but somewhat relevant vein:

Shah Rukh Khan seeks Dubai home

Here's the full article although I would urge female Bollywood fans to click on the link. There's a rather dishy shot of him accompanying the article. Shah Rukh Khan and the wet look. Can't go wrong.

NEW DELHI: After Mannat in Mumbai, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to acquire a "jannat" in Dubai. The superstar has decided to have a residence in Dubai's upcoming Palm Deira project, which is being developed on reclaimed land, according to a release by the project's promoters.

The heartthrob, who has been hailed as 'the world's biggest movie star in terms of recognition' by Time Magazine, has discussed his plans to have a residence in the exotic island on Dubai's seafront with Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of Nakheel. Shah Rukh was recently invited to Nakheel's Corporate Office in Dubai, where he and Sulayem discussed the incredible project that has risen above sea level in the last few months.

During his official visit to Dubai where he is leading the stage performance of 'Temptation 2004' this weekend, he was mesmerised by the incredible developments that have brought worldwide interest to Dubai's doorstep. The Bollywood icon reportedly made references on several occasions to the privacy, safety and cleanliness of Dubai.

"Shah Rukh Khan is an inspirational actor, a role model for millions across the sub-continent and beyond and clearly a fan of the cosmopolitan and dynamic city of Dubai. We are delighted that he has chosen to be part of The Palm," Sulayem said.

Shah Rukh Khan enjoyed a boat ride around The Palm Jumeirah and The World - two other seafront projects being developed by the same company. Bin Sulayem confirmed that it was after the trip that Shah Rukh Khan, who had expressed his delight at seeing these islands rising from the sea, verified that he would reside on the latest Palm project, to be developed in the Deira area of Dubai.

The superstar, however, was not available for comment.

What is going on here???

I'm in the middle of updating my CV and personal statement. I will send these to construction companies in the UAE and hopefully work on these huge construction projects IA.

To live in a land where you wake up to the adhan, work and live a good standard of life without the usual BS you get when living in the gurbolands. I will take that anyday.

I dont agree fully with what is going in the UAE, but i also dont agree whole heartedly with whats going on in the UK. The lure of living in a islamic country with a triple pay package, house, car and travel tickets to go to Burco and UK every six months. Plus the idea of bringing futures little norfs in a muslim country sounds good. :D So isoduceya!

Having said that, what others do with their wealth is not my concern. There is nobody doing more than the Arabs in providing finances for charity/schools/masjids/infrastructure. The combined wealth of all the arab states cant solve the problems in Africa. What we also need to remember is that the middle east was just a vast desert 20 or so years ago. They have gone from crawling to running in a short space of time. Somalis can learn from that!

The construction of skyscrapers are signs of yomal quiyama, but its not a problem when its in kafur country right? I love skyscrapers, the architecture on the twin towers in Kuala Lumpar is the finest design ever. The construction of the new bridge (highest bridge in the world) between france and spain is awesome. The Gurkin in the city of London is brill and so is Canary Warf. That doesnt mean its haram to construct a skyscraper does it?

I have dream of one day building road/bridges and sky skyscrapers back home. I will continue to live that dream and work on constructing large expensive buildings, its my job!

One question i have recently asked myself is, if i'm working for a client wishing to build a Casino, is that haram on my part? I dont think it is but i will see the imam this week IA.

Somalis stop hating and being concerned with things you have no control over and live your life!

Peace!

My, Muad, you do think highly of yourself. There's no such thing as a win/win situation. Somebody always loses. I'll pass on the invitation but u can have my shirt u skinflint. I'll send you my frilliest number. Serves you right. icon_razz.gif

Northerner, I'm not too keen on skyscrapers- got a small fear of heights going on- which is why I always stand close to the edge when I'm way up high. The rush, u see... :D I hope your Dubai dream comes true. If you're up there somewhere doing what u lot do and u see a Somali woman swaying on the edge of the adjacent skyscraper, don't get help, just wave. smile.gif She needs to be there to conquer a fear. It's got nothing to do with her adrenaline habit. No, nothing.

French Climber Who Calls Himself 'Spiderman' Scales Top of World's Tallest Building in Taiwan

A French urban climber who calls himself Spiderman climbed to the top of the world's tallest building on Saturday Taipei 101.

Alain Robert, 42, took almost four hours to reach the top of the 1,679-foot building. The climb took him nearly twice as long as he had expected, partly because of dreary weather.

Although he's climbed many of the world's tallest structures without the use of a rope, he climbed with one on Saturday, likely because of the wind and rain.

He paused to rest every eighth floor and even chatted with the president of Taipei 101 before tackling the final stretch.

As dark clouds drifted around the top, Robert climbed onto the roof with a tired smile. "It was very wet … and there was a strong wind," he said.

Robert has also scaled the Eiffel Tower and more than 30 skyscrapers around the world, including New York's Empire State Building in 1994 and the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1997.

The Christmas Day climb opened a week of media events leading up to the official inauguration of Taipei 101 on New Year's Eve. The building houses office space and an observatory. A shopping mall at the base of the tower opened last year.

The 101-story skyscraper is 184 feet taller than the previous record-holder, the Petronas Towers. Taipei 101 also claims to have the highest structural top, the tallest roof and the highest occupied floor.

It also has two of the world's fastest elevators, which travel 55 feet per second and can go from the ground floor to the 89th in 39 seconds.

oh the rush

Oh my, we're hating on the Arabs again...do we not get tired, really...?! I was wondering, since when did we believe this is a perfect world with absolutely no negatives, a world where everyone is happy, educated, not starving and people are also, absolutely in love with each others...!! Hmm..does it really exist...!! We're talking about why dont the Arabs, (i'm assuming the rich Gulf countries), spend all their money to feed the starving Muslims all over the world...!! Yeah Umar Bin Al-Khatab did that, but when was that, and according to Islamic forcasting, when will it happen again...!! Why do we Somalis deserve any help....i mean when nations try to help us, do we take up the chance and do the best we can...or do we turn around and kill reer hebel...!! For god's sake, we are a nation that was granted freedom almost 10 years before the UAE, we have far more population than they do, we have more natural resources, we have mostly beautiful, good, and smart people...and why on god's earth are we the destructed nation...has anyone ever gave it a thought...since we're saying the Arab leaders lack this and that, what do we have...i mean really have...!! In my opinion, we deserve no help what so ever...!! Instead of hating the arabs for their accomplishments and critisizing what they do with their own money, how about we at least talk about and dream about the beautiful Somalia and how we can turn it into a heaven...or maybe rebuild the ruins, since Allah gave us a heaven anywayz...!! Oh I forgot, our priority at this moment is bash arabs..lets wait a few more decades..!! Someone up there actually praised Turkey....a country that bans Hijab in schools, and bans Aadaan.....hmmm...i'm guessing they're better than the UAE, where you'll hear at least 5 aadaans from 5 different corners...!!

I am so honestly pleased with Dubai...it aint perfect....but its better than any other dhul gaalo, and since we dont have a dhul of our own, we might as well live in the next best heaven...!! I'm going back to Dubai this summer insha allah after 10 years of no aadaan hearing....i am looking forward to maybe going back and living there after school.....maybe i wont be granted a visa as Somali, maybe i will be treated as a black woman, but hey, i really hope the American passport will work magic for moi...!! As for now, let me focus on my own human development...!!

Salaamz

B.S. Goodness Sha Ruk Khan looks good...!!

France shows off tallest bridge

The world's highest road bridge has been inaugurated in southern France by President Jacques Chirac.

The Millau bridge over the River Tarn in the Massif Central mountains is more than 300m (984ft) high - taller even than the country's Eiffel Tower.

_40628929_millaunight_ap300.jpg

The bridge, which opens to traffic on Thursday, was built to clear summer traffic jams around the town.

The BBC's Paris correspondent, Caroline Wyatt, says the bridge is one of the most breathtaking ever built.

She says that with its concrete and steel pillars soaring high above the morning fog in the Tarn Valley, the construction makes a spectacular sight.

'Delicacy of a butterfly'

Seven slender piers support the roadway, rising into seven graceful pylons bound to the bridge with what look like cobwebs of steel, our correspondent says.

"The bridge is just on the clouds," Millau Mayor Jacques Godfrain told the BBC's World Today programme.

"The architect, Norman Foster, gave us a model of art."

TALL ORDER

Cost: 394m euros (£272m; $524m)

Highest point: 343m (1,125ft)

Vehicle height: 270m (885ft)

Mr Foster said the bridge was designed to have the "delicacy of a butterfly".

"A work of man must fuse with nature. The pillars had to look almost organic, like they had grown from the earth," the world-renowned British architect said in an interview with regional daily newspaper Midi Libre.

Like Concorde and the Channel Tunnel, the bridge is Franco-British.

French construction group Eiffage - that built the Eiffel Tower - financed the project in return for the right to collect receipts from a bridge toll for 75 years.

The bridge is now a source of pride for Millau, which believes many more tourists will come to admire one of the engineering wonders of the 21st Century, our correspondent says.

The construction also removes a bottleneck at the town, completing a new motorway link between Paris and the Mediterranean.

The construction of the steel bridge - now weighing about 36,000 tonnes - began in December 2001, using innovative techniques.

From the north and south sides of the valley, the metal sections of the structure were assembled, lifted slightly and then carefully slotted into place on each of the supporting pillars.

Motorists are expected to pay 4.6 euros (£3.18; $5.60) for a trip across the bridge.

Waaw $8 billion dollars on one building ..... good way of spending money. Last time I checked our country's national debt was 2.5....this money could make change, a whole different change.

LOL I must laugh to some of the things that make us proud, become up to date and somehow think as developed nowadays.

Arab haters would love to see a wealth of 8 billions spent on a needle in the sky LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, good for u guyz if u know what good does it make.

I thought I wont reply to this topic again but I couldn't resist Honesita's Honest words :D

Senorita Honesita, what Shall I say? you choosed the right nickname sis smile.gif

You said it all. It seems its too difficult for others to be objective with their opinions about someone/group of people if they don’t like them or can’t digest them.

Allah granted us a Heaven on the earth but we destroyed and spoiled that heaven, instead of uniting with each others to re-build it again and doing the best we can for that heaven, we are bashing and wasting our times and efforts by attacking others for what the Lord have granted them and blaming them for what we’ve done to ourselves.

This reminded me with the little children attitudes when they were given beautiful and lovely toys. Unfortunately and because of his ignorance, one child broke his toy. Sadly, this child doesn’t know how to fix it. So all what he did was crying and screaming so that he shows his dissatisfaction and frustration to others. His babysitter who could'nt fix the toy for him brought him a new one. Ofcourse that pleased the child, but surely he (and the rest of the children) supposed to learn an important lesson which is :-

“Keep your toy safe and in good condition so that you can play with over and over. You are not gonna get a new toy every time you break oneâ€

Some smart children were able to figure out this valued lesson while some couldn't get it. Simply because they wanna play with the toys and break them. And the worst thing is that they wanna overtake others’ toys coz they think they have the right to own their toys.

Well, I feel bad for those brats. Life will teach them lots of lessons :D

Will they learn the lesson and get the point??! OR they will keep nagging and screaming all the time for others' possessions and properties??

(This is what we gonna discover in the next episode of the long boring series:-

"I'll hate you if you didn't give me your things) LOOOOL

Anyway, I guess everyone knows what will happen next. Life will goes on and those ignorant children will find out that nobody will care about them if they didn't care for themselves and do something USEFUL for their own :D

Let’s open another thread and call it “Sweet Somalia†and talk about the new projects and enterprises for our OWN MOTHERLAND. Btw, nobody answered my cute question earlier :Waayo talaw?!

Or,,,, no need Iam afraid we gonna start bashing each others. We don’t want any Headaches, Heat & Hard feelings at the end of 2004 :D

So let 2004 rest in peace and let 2005 start with Peace, Progress and Prosperity for all the countries including Ours Inshallah .

Maalin wanaagsan for all.

Very good analysis Classique of who we really are and I couldn’t have put it better.

It seems we Somalis are like kids who wants to get what they want and if not we bang our heads against the wall rather than trying to figure it out, the hows and whys. I think this is because our brains have not evolved yet to the stage of figuring out! Let us hope we would figure out very soon but unfortunately, evolution is a slow process! So God help us.

I think is a good idea for opening a new thread in order to solve our differences first before we criticise others. Plus you never know this might accelerate our figuring out of hows or whys.

^^ You know what that called? Well I was reading around and found the reason of all this Arab bashing!. Its simple tactic .... when one doesn't give you what you want... Which is usualy a silly requests, you scream, blame others for being the reason of your unhappiness. "They don't acknowledge their part it in they deflect and project thus elliminate any personal responibilities for their actions or their hate".<--Isn't this very true with those people!!

Its very immature act being done by grown up people. Classique you were right when you compared them with a spoiled kid!

very true classique that sounds like a good topic to me! its kind of what i have been trying to say, that we as somalis and africans need to stand on our own two feet if progress is ever to be made. No need for arabs.
