Recommended Posts

According to the Swiss-born Canadian businessman and adventurer Bernard Weber, the current Seven Wonders of the World are outdated and its time to select a new list. He initiated a money making project called New 7 Wonders of the World. After months of "voting", declaration ceremony will be held in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, 07.07.07. What you think about the project? Will it be taking seriously or its just another stunt from the west to deceit the world?

It seems those so-called major 'wonders' always are located currently in Muslim lands or were built by Muslims.

It always seems that. The new list on that site has those:

- Taj Mahal

- Hagia Sophia

- Timbuktu

- Pyramids of Giza

- Petra

There are some great buildings around the world. Today's buildings cannot be considered as wonders as the tools, engineering know how is already present.

What distincts the old buildings is their innovative ways to achieve what was thought impossible at the time. The inter-connected domes of the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, the mud structur of the Mosque in Timbuktu, Mali and how its all kept together with long sticks are great examples.

They are still studying how the pyramids were put up, how Petra was put together etc.

MMA,Islam is a comprehensive religion that covers all facets of human life, while the West was enveloped in its Dark Ages,Islamic teaching laid the foundation for scientific, thought and paved the way for the scientific developments we see in the world today.Also,the Muslim World was at the height of learning and development. It is a known fact that the Renaissance was due in great part to the advancement and transmission of knowledge from the Muslim Civilization.

MMA, Only six of the 21 New wonders list are located in Muslim lands. And as Northern said, new modern buildings such as Sydney opera and Statue of Liberty should not be compared to the ancient and magnificent buildings of Betra and Timbuktu and should have their own category.

...Remember Greek historian and tourist companies are the referees here. So far top ten fron-runners after 45 million people mostly westerners voted are:

* Acropolis in Greece

* Ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico

* Rome’s Colosseum

* The Eiffel Tower in Paris

* The Great Wall of China

* Incan ruins of Machu Picchu

* Petra in Jordan

* Statues on Easter Island

* Britain’s Stonehenge

* The Taj Mahal in India

Waa gartay walaashiis, ee waxaa ula jeeday Muslimiinta iyagoo dhulkaan iyo taariiq soo jireedkaan leh wali kama faa'ideysan. Dhulka ay maanta Muslimiinta degaan waa dhulalkii ilbaxnimada, horumarka iyo soo saarka ugu horeeye oo ka bilowday. Qaarkood oo ahaa Mesopotamia [maanta ah Ciraaq iyo Suuriya], Fircooniintii, Beershiya [Persia], Reer Andalus, Cismaaniyiintii iyo meelaha kale. Muslimiin haddaan nahnay kama faa'ideysan. Midda labaad aan ka faa'ideysan is qeyraadka, sida today's gold, shidaalka [oil].

Jabhad, it is obviously biased, and has a Western tendency, especially if the top is so far led by Acropolis in Greece. As you said the judges are Greek, so what do you expect?

I was reading a few months ago about this new project and how furious some Egyptian officials got at by the simple reason of comparing those 'modern wonders' to ancient ones, like Pyramids of Giza. Some Canadians too were infuriated since CN Tower in Koronto was left out, especially since CN Tower was considered a 'modern wonder' by some.

Can you nominate a place?

if so I nomiate the northern lights. There is nothing more beautiful and hyponotically enchanting than to stare at the northhern lights in northern Canada in weather that is -20 with a windchill of -15 (bundled like an ompa loompa)

and stare up above.

it's almost a postcard waiting to happen smile.gif
