Deeq A. Posted April 1, 2021 MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s army commander, General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh has held talks with Brigadier General Fabiano Zinzon, head of EU mission for Somalia. The military chiefs met at ministry of defense in the capital Mogadishu, discussing on ways to improve trainings for the country’s army forces. General Odowaa has thanked EU mission’s support for training his army forces fighting against al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group in Somalia. Odawaa affirmed that he is committed to working closely with EU mission in Somalia. For his part, Brigadier General Zinzon reiterated its support for the government of Somalia. Zinzon pledged that EU mission would continue training for the country’s army forces in order to defeat Al Shabaab group. al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group has been battling African Union troops and the Mogadishu-based-government for more than ten years. The insurgent group has lost major towns to Somali army and African Union troops, but it still holds large swaths in south of the country. Last month, the group has carried out similar mortar attack on Halane camp in Mogadishu where United Nations, African Union and other foreign diplomatic offices located.
