Jacaylbaro Posted February 29, 2008 The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is entering a period of rapid change in terms of population growth and regeneration. We are at the heart of the Mayor’s plans for London that seek to develop the capital as a diverse world city, the 2012 Olympics is generating huge opportunities for East London and we are expecting the population of Tower Hamlets to increase by around 50,000. This is an exciting time to be involved in public health in Tower Hamlets. If you have a burning ambition to make a difference to the health of our population, this is the opportunity for you. As a Spearhead PCT serving an inner city multi ethnic population with high levels of social deprivation, tackling health inequalities is a top priority for us and public health is at the heart of this. This project aims to assess the mental health needs of the Somali community in Tower Hamlets. It provides the opportunity for assessing the Somali community’s mental health status and describing the patterns of mental health problems within the community. It will also provide more detailed information about the needs and priorities of the local Somali population and highlight areas of unmet needs. This will provide a clear set of objectives to work towards to meet these needs. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to take responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and management of a health needs assessment project, and produce of a strategic report with recommendations to inform commissioning of mental health services for the PCT. You will need strong conceptual and analytical skills as well as excellent leadership, interpersonal and presentation abilities.
