Deeq A. Posted March 14, 2021 Somaliland: President Bihi Receives New UAE Emissary The President Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, received the letters of accreditation for the new permanent emissary from the United Arab Emirates, Abdulla Al-Naqbi. Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates share ties that stretch back centuries. Trade between the two countries began with livestock and hides exports from Somaliland to the UAE, all the way to today’s immense investment in Berbera by DP World, an Emirate company. From the late 1960’s through to the 1980’s a large Somaliland community worked and lived in the Emirates. These Somalilanders ranged from professionals to soldiers to construction workers. There are also many Emirates with Somaliland ancestry in influential positions in that country. Emissary Al-Naqbi will be the first permanent UAE diplomat to be based in Somaliland. Sources indicate that the Republic of Kenya are expected to open a diplomatic consulate in Somaliland during this month of March, 2021.
