Curly Posted January 25, 2010 Afternoon! Hey ever had that strange feeling that you're suddenly very aware of that fact that you've been coasting through the last couple of weeks or months half asleep...maybe it's my mind telling me I need a holiday. Curly Posted January 25, 2010 What? Who did what to you juxa. I had a run in with a Somali man in the train station...the last train had left early with announcing the platform, so me and two dozen people were stranded. I asked the only person who looked like a member of staff which just happened to be this rude Somali cleaner who insisted he'd only help me if made my request in Somali. I was so panicky at the thought of not being able to get home I couldn't get myself to answer him in any coherent Somali and instead lectured him in English that we was paid to work in the damn place not quiz people about their language. Aren't I a paying customer just like everyone else? National rail were so embarrassed about their mistake they ended up sending everyone home in black cabs and some of the people were heading out of London so you can imagine how expensive that little mishap was. Geel_jire Posted January 25, 2010 maalin/galab wanaagsan reer troll. I've only had positive run ins with Somali .. well except that one time I offered islaan weyn a ride to the mosque in sub-zero weather and she refused as if inaan wax ka rabo.
Curly Posted January 25, 2010 Geel jire, do you blame her she'd on her way to mosque...I'm sure she feels she's still in her prime. Older Somali men do this to me a lot; they find it amusing that you can't speak Somali very well. But it's the second time (other time was dhabshill, on the phone...I was calling on behalf of client who was deaf, subxanallah) someone did this to me whilst they were supposedly working. I don't understand why they need to get so personal, I don't treat Somali I come across at work any differently that other people. I'm not paid to socialise or snoop. Juxa Posted January 25, 2010 curly you have rightly put him in his place, so unprofessional my run in was a white man, he said more or less, our sort fake things alot and see it as opportunity. how very dare he? i told him to get his fact straight
Chocolate and Honey Posted January 25, 2010 Juxa, Lol@ cadaanka waa wax waalin. Some of them have this obsession with anything Somalis. My friend's cadaan co-worker(who is by the way married to a West African)blurted out "Somali girls are not pretty." We both laughed and said, yes they're. Then, she goes "according to who? your people? I mean, you two are pretty for Somal dont get me wrong. But most of them are hidious-looking. And dont mention the guys, skinny and ugly. And the way, Somalis are set on their ways, very backwarded by the way." LOL! Talk about feeling inferior. Curly, Ignore them. They think you're pretending you dont speak Somali. I have run into that problem too many times. I get nervous and try to speak properly and then they yell at me, telling me to speak clearly. Then I get more nervous and come out as Oromo. N.O.R.F Posted January 26, 2010 ^So where did you go?
Faheema. Posted January 26, 2010 Hey Sheh, glad to see you dear. Hope you are doing well and enjoy this place is starting to freeze up again btw. have you tried the ALT key then the apostrophes key?
sheherazade Posted January 26, 2010 somewhere the keyboard doesnt reflect what appears on the screen. Could be anywhere. Now I know why I never understand Rudy. Big grin. I asked for help and found the full stop, comma and apostrophe still unknowns.
sheherazade Posted January 26, 2010 oh no Faheema is there a cold blast due back question mark times 5. I have tried all kinds. The symbol on the key is not what shows up. You have to ask the guy that works here, point at what you want and he pushes something else. OMG I found the comma, it is a semi-colon. If he is sick or dies business will drop sharply. I said why dont you get the keyboard to show on screen what you press soft, untimidating, secretly irritated queston mark. He said he would let the owner know. ie nothing will change.
