^^ Talking of Somali. For no reason at all, an old Somali song came to me on the train this morning and I've been trying to work it out ever since.

 

It's the one that says "doqon'e hadal ma daysay, markaan blah blah blah". But it's not that line (though it's a great line, for obvious reasons).

 

The one that confuses me is the one that goes: dab markaan ku juugsadaan dhamqada, daaad marko i qaadaa aan ka durga!

daad is not flooding in this sense, it means arintu weyla tagtay, calaashan isma qaban karo, out of control jaceyl dartii yada yada yada

Juxa's explanation is wrong. (wuu madax guguban yhay ayey igu tidhi maalin hore oo waan ka aar gudanayaa).

 

Daad markuu i qaadaan ka durkaa here means 'I am always late to do the right thing'. As Juxa rightly said earlier waa nin shalaytoonayaa, markaa this line is consistent with the rest of the song.
