Gunmen attack Bosaso Central Prison

Bosaso (PP News Desk) — Unidentified gunnmen have attacked Bosaso Central Prison at about 23: 30 East Africa time.

Details about the attack are scant but people living near the jail said attackers had used explosives to force their way into the jail where Al-shabaab and ISIS suspects have been detained.

Live clips shared on Facebook indicate that attackers were using mortars to launch the attack.

A Bosaso resident whom Puntland Post reporter interviewed had said that attackers seem to have planned the attempted storming of the jail. “They blocked roads leading to the jail to prevent reinforcements from reaching the jail” the Bosaso resident said.

The firefight between attackers and jail guards lasted for more than two hours. Neither Bari regional administration nor the security force has issued a statement on the attack. Yesterday, Bari regional administration banned carrying firearms in the town.
