UN welcomes agreement between PM Roble and candidates

The UN mission in Somalia warmly welcomes the agreement announced tonight by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, the leaders of Galmudug, HirShabelle, and Benadir, and the Council of Presidential Candidates, as a positive step.

UNSOM said it applauds this step, which is in the interest of the citizens of #Mogadishu and of Somalia, and urges that all involved continue to engage in dialogue to address other remaining issues in a spirit of compromise and goodwill.

The government of Somalia has been working tirelessly to end the differences over the electoral process to lead the country to peaceful, free, and fair elections.

Jubaland and Puntland are still reluctant to join the process and set out hard conditions for the talks called by President Farmajo to discuss the implementation of the Sep 17 agreement.
